A welcome letter has come from Mrs. Karl (Ethel) Ewald, daughter of our classmate, Dr. Warren D. Turner, who died in 1918. In it she informs me that her mother's sister, widow of our classmate. Dr. ClarenceWalker, who died in 1938, passed away on December 7, 1962 at Geneseo, N.Y., at the age of 92. Her mother, Mrs. Blanche M. Turner, lives with her at Pearl River, N.Y., and except for failing eyesight is in excellent health. Mrs. Ewald, left a widow at 25, attended Cornell University and after graduation spent 21 years as a bacteriologist and biologist with Lederle Laboratories. Her second husband is an executive of American Cyanamid. Her son, Bruce, is a graduate of Alfred University and is a breeder of cattle and farmer at Livingston Co., N.Y., and is married and has three children. Her sister, Wanda, is married to an architect, Mr. Charles R. Frost. She has three children, all doing finely. Copies of the class letters have been mailed to her.
Letters have been received from Mrs. Ilda Giles, daughter of Frederic Seth Pope and Monte's widow, Mrs. George J. Daniell. The former speaks of certain mutual friends discovered in Chicago and Brooklyn; the latter of her recent participation in the Rockefeller campaign and of her regret that transportation difficulties will keep her from Hanover in June.
Your secretary is discouraged. Only one reply to over 90 class newsletters has been received. With the Roundup and Reunion only five months away, he had hoped to hear from many who, he feels sure, are planning to attend. His cup would be running over could he find in his mail some assurances of intention to pay honor next June to the memory of the men who made the Class of '98 one of Dartmouth's best and to renew together the Dartmouth tradition. '98 UP.
