GREETINGS TWOTERS: After a tour of duty at the Portsmouth (N. H.), Naval Hospital, Bill Angell is now serving (after a short time in the Atlantic) as senior medical officer on a heavy cruiser. Margaret says the lieutenant commander is delighted with his assignment. Sorry we can't give you further details at present but will try to quote such info, as censorship will allow.
Connected with Harvard since '26, Paul Boyle has moved to a Philadelphia suburb and is a full professor in the School of Dentistry at the University of Penn. Paul Jr. is a midshipman, USNR, at Columbia, and Margaret Ann is Pfc. USMCWR, Radio Materials School, Omaha. Alorie, two, completes the family.
The Boston contingent, with a western addition, turned out in goodly numbers for their annual dinner at the University Club on Friday, October 13. Those defiers of superstition were Steve Tredennick, George Stan- ley, Walt Sands, Oscar Rice, Ced Porter, Bill Mann, Fran Lei and, Gene Hotchkiss, Arv Gunnison, Hal Green, Carroll Dwight, Haskell Cohn, Nick Carter, Bill Bullen, Dick Bowler and Bob Booth. Hotchkiss had been on one of his eastern business trips and had lunch with some of the New York boys a few days earlier.
It's pretty hard, darn difficult in fact, to keep up with Twoters in service. At the risk of quoting old dope, however, you'll be interested to know that Russ Harmon is now a lieutenant commander in the Corps of Civil Engineers USNR, and on active duty. Mildred is keeping house at their home in Durham,N. H.
Major Bob Cate, field representative, Connecticut Reemployment Commission, is working closely with '23's famous Carl Gray on the problems of reemployment and aid to veterans through formation of local committees and meetings on this important matter.
After seventeen years with Shell Oil, C. W. (Sandy) Sanders decided on other fields and has formed a new connection with Danciger Oil and Refining Co. as chief geologist, and recently brought in his first well in Louisiana. Sandy moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in February of this year and lives at 2413 Colonial Parkway, practically next door to the country club. One of my local scouts from Bethlehem reports the Sanders family as delighted with their new environs. Sandy—are you still playing tennis?
From George Cook, the boss of Geo. F. Cook Construction Co., Minneapolis, there is interesting news. His family items are summed up as—one wife; one daughter, 19; one son, 15; one dog, 3 months. Other pertinent facts relate to his job of instructing cadets in aerial navigation for the CAP, and putting in twelve hours a week on river patrol as a member of USCGR(T). To quote further- "l see Cece Burnham and Louie Gluek around town quite often. Louie, incidentally, in case he neglects to inform you, is a chief petty officer in the Coast Guard Reserve here and personnel officer for the St. Paul unit."
Chuck Canfield has taken temporary leave from the Canfield Paper Co., New York City, for war work in Washington. He is stationed presently in the Office of the Quartermaster General, Room 2204, Temporary B Bldg., as an expert consultant on paper. You other Washington Twoters—give Chuck a ring, if you haven't already connected! Home base is still Pleasantville, N. Y. Chuck's oldest daughter is attending Dana Hall, another daughter is a high school sophomore, and the son of the family is a third grader.
A letter from Charlie Tapley was the first knowledge I had that he's out of the Navy and resuming his insurance business in Boston at the old stand, with C. R. Tapley and Co., 87 Kilby Street. And here's a corker from Bill Pope:
Temporarily I am spending Monday through Friday here (Collord, Inc., 5151 Stanton Ave., Detroit) returning to Toledo for the weekends, and probably will continue this program for a few months.
A couple of weeks ago I called up all the twoters I could find and we got together for dinner at the Bayview Yacht Club. We really had quite a time of it. Those present were Bob Turnbull, Johnny Shea, Harvey Shipton and Bill Pope. Absent were Jim Noyes and Francis McMahon, both of whom had previous engagements and who expressed what seemed to be most sincere regrets.
The boys seemed real happy to be together and it was unanimously agreed that we should try to do it at least once a month. I'll certainly do what I can to get it organized.
I told the boys that I thought there was a possibility of your coming around one day. They are most eager to see you. If you will let me know as far ahead as possible I'll get them rounded up.
(You bet I will, Bill!) See you next monthl
