WE HAD A DANDY MEETING at Harris Dawson's house on Friday, Oct'. 20. Charles Chapman '33 who is a newcomer to Atlanta was there. Charlie is associated with the National Carbon Cos. with offices in the Palmer Building and has just bought a home at 4707 Powers Ferry Rd., N. W. His family will join him in Atlanta next month.
We were also happy to welcome Ens. Jack Morrison '35 who is at the office of the Inspector of Naval Material on Spring St., and Richard K. Exton '29 who has been living at 1089 Lanier Blvd., Atlanta, for a year or two but with whom we had not been able to make connections until just last week.
We had an election of officers with Austin L. Starrett '29 who is Professor of Mathematics at Georgia Tech. being elected president. The incumbent secretary was re-elected for another year.
We talked over plans for meeting with Donald Cameron '35 who is coming down here in December from Hanover to discuss the college's Vocational Placement program. As chairman of the Vocational Placement Committee for the southeastern area (excluding Florida), Harris Dawson will call a meeting of his committee with Mr. Cameron for Monday, December 4. Mr. Cameron will arrive in Atlanta on Saturday, - December 2, and the chances are that we will have some informal meeting with him on the evening of December 2. I am giving you these dates so that all who possibly can will hold them open.
The members received with enthusiasm Mr. and Mrs. Paul White's invitation to a dinner and theatre party early in December. Paul has not given us a definite date yet but has promised to do so as far in advance as possible so that any alumni in Atlanta or near Atlanta can plan to be on hand. I might say that there will be no fees or assessment for this December party, just in case any of you were wondering what this was going to cost. .... Paul and Mrs. White will be our host and hostess on this occasion. (I cannot promise you that we won't be about ready to collect some dues about that time, however.)
On Dartmouth Night, Nov. 10, a large number of Atlanta Alumni gathered at Alva Wilson's house to renew their ties of loyalty to the college. Everyone enjoyed the splendid beer and skittles provided by our host and the evening's program of movies included a reel showing Cornell's famous fifty down and also some excellent technicolor pictures of the last Sugar Bowl game at New Orleans.
Any visiting Alumni who are not on our regular mailing list are cordially invited to call the secretary and join us the next time we get together. Tel. HEmlock 5385.
