The move into the Army and Navy so well brought out by Red Gristede's last "Fund Letter" by members of our Class still goes on and is the major item in this month's notes.
"Vic" King has been commissioned Lieutenant (jg) and reported April 25. Vic has practiced law in Plainfield, N. J., since 1937 when he opened his own office there. He and Betty have a son, Victor Edward, age six years. Vic is the third of the King brothers now serving in the Armed Forces.
Others also recently joining up are George Wein of Glens Falls, N. Y., and Henkle Renobath of whom have Army o£ U. S. addresses. George also was a practicing attorney and has a wife and one son. Henk was manager of the Equitable Life of N. Y. in Peoria, Illinois. He and Alice have two youngsters.
A couple of promotions in the gang—Ralph Maynard is now a Captain as also is Saul Sherman while George Uglow has been made a Lieutenant (jg). Congratulations, fellows, from all of us.
"Bill" Light—Bill Lapidies to us, before it was changed—is now with the Electromic Research Supply Agency, N. Y. C. Bill was in the auto parts business for many years but the war sort of cramped his style and this new connection looks like one that's good for a long time.
And a change in job is also listed for "Verne" Welsh, together with pictures in all the New York papers. Verne has been elected vice-president and copy director of Geyer, Cornell, and Newell—one of New York's foremost advertising firms. Verne is one of the gang who got on a track and really stayed on it till he hit the top. He's done an outstanding job in his field, and only two weeks ago was asked to address one of the advertising association groups on his specialty—copywriting. His home is in Ridgefield, Conn.
Jim Lyall was another '3ier to hit the N. Y. headlines when he was nominated—tantamount to being elected—For Treasurer of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. Jim is personnel director of the U. S. Trust Cos. He has been on the Board of Governors of the N. Y. Chapter of A. I. B. since 1937. He is also active in the N. Y. Employment Manager's Association, and is a vice president and director of the Young Men's Board of Trade in N. Y. Congratulations to you both, Jim and Vernon.
Three weeks ago, I attended a Philadelphia Dartmouth Dinner at which football and basketball coach Earl Brown was guest speaker. University of Pennsylvania coaches George Munger, Horace Hendrickson and Paul Riblett were also guests. Movies of the Penn-Dartmouth football game were shown as well as basketball pictures of the Dartmouth-Ohio State and Dartmouth-Colorado games. The Big Green looked good but in the Colorado game seemed tired as well they might have after so much traveling back and forth to Hanover. They had to go back to Hanover after the Ohio State Game and then come down to N. Y. again for Colorado.
We were all mighty impressed by Earl Brown's quiet and confident manner. He is the type of coach we'd all like to see for a long time at Hanover. Let's hope we can keep him there as he is doing a real job.
