While on our vacation Edith and I had the good fortune to contact Orvil and Amy Smith, who were just ending their month's rest at their camp, and while lunching together at Hanover Inn, much to our pleasure, found Elaine and Ernest Brown. All six of us agreed that it was a long time back to 1903 but that Hanover looked good to us.

On pur way back to Ragged Mountain we stopped for a few moments at the tepee of Heap Big Chief Cutter at New London. Living the quiet life, with the sons and daughter away, Vic and Florence seemed in the best of health. Vic gave us the high lights of our President-Elect, and finally streamlined it all by saying, "He appears to us (the trustees) to have everything a president of Dartmouth should have."

Following Harold Scudder's retirement as head of the English Department of the University of New Hampshire a little research brought out the trail over which he has travelled from the days of college. Harold received his B.S. degree from Dartmouth in 1903. From 1904-13 he was a reporter on various newspapers in Manchester, N. H., Salem, Mass., and in the State of Washington. He was publicity director for the Federal Food Administration in 1918 and in charge of publicity for New Hampshire University 1914-23. In 1913 Harold became instructor in English, and professor of English in 1928. Following a year of study at Cambridge University in England he served as head of the English Department from 1939 and acting dean of the College of Liberal Arts for two years.

A letter from Ernest Groves tells of the return of Comdr. o'K.ane of the U. S. Submarine Tang. Given up as lost by family and friends because they had not heard of his being taken prisoner by the Japs, Ernestine, his wife, still had faith of his return and had constantly held that faith before her children. One can well imagine the joy when such a faith was rewarded. Congratulations to all the family.
