THE VANGUARD of some fifty war veterans who will receive crafts training in the Dartmouth Student Workshop as part of the rehabilitation program sponsored by the American Craftsmen's Educational Council arrived in Hanover early in Tanuary.
The training program, which is being carried out with the cooperation of the College, is under the direction of Virgil Poling, director of the workshop. Seven instructors are already on hand to instruct the veterans in weaving, pottery, metal work and woodworking, and a full-time personnel director, Eliot Hutchinson, member of the pyschology department at the University of Rochester, has joined the staff.
The craft training is designed to rehabilitate veterans through manual industry and handicraft and by furnishing them a means of making their own independent living to reestablish them as active and respected members of their home communities.
