Just before the end of this last semester, Bob Keane left school for a few weeks' vacation and then a trip to Annapolis where he had qualified for an appointment. Unfortunately he was unable to pass his physical examination and now awaits his draft board's notice.

Many civilian '47s have wisely decided to take a summer of leisure, so upon returning to the campus we found many of the faithful faces had disappeared. We have not been able to get figures on the number of civilian '47s on campus, but the number must be between 15 and 20. The Navy can account for five more, your secretary enrolled at Thayer School, Yakovac, Matthews and Adjemian are looking forward to Medical School, and Jordan Eskin is back on campus after entering the Navy and taking the radio course which follows up the Eddy Test.

Bob White, now with the Medical Department of the Army, says that at Barkeley, Texas, he spent some time with his ex-roommate, Bob Fitzell. Bob (White) has been with a Malaria Control unit, but just before going over, the unit was inactivated. Of late he has been preparing lectures and schedules for Negro sanitary technicians. Pete Townsend is now Navy V-12 and "working like hell for an Engineering degree" at Columbia. Pete says he has seen Hal Clayton, Len Bjorklund and some of the other fellows.

John Harder is with the Marines, possibly at Okinawa. Julian Schmer, now stationed at Smyrna, Tenn., feels that he is hopelessly classed as a Pre-Aviation Cadet. He has had this rating since May 1943. Tom Viets is with the Army Air Corps going to Radio School in Sioux City, S. D. Tom reports that he ran into Bill Dahlin at his school. Ted Clark is at pres- ent confined with scarlet fever by the Navy at Sampson, N. Y. Tom Grimley, now NROTC at Harvard, expects to be commissioned by January 1946. Burt Zuckernick, for a long time overseas, has recently been awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge.

Cotton Johnson, RT 3/c writes he is "stationed in Chicago, Texas, and Frisco. Many chuckles. I saw Motlong in Texas, Harrington in Frisco. I miss the snow, hockey, football Schlitz and Dartmouth in general." Cotton expects to ship out in a couple of months. John Sisson, Pfc., is with an Infantry Division in

Germany. Ary Kaufmann is stationed at Turner Field, Ga., waiting to go to Pre-Flight School. He reports that Phil Booth is also stationed there. George Cohn is back in town after being discharged from the Army. He reports that Roy Harris is now overseas.

Tom Leggat, RM 3/c, has been to radio school at Bedford Springs, Pa., more at Casco Bay, and is now stationed on a D.E. in the Atlantic. Dick Nickelsen, T/5, is stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama, engaged with training men for the Infantry, but expects to be shipped overseas soon. Joe Scandore has been assigned to a General Hospital some place in France as a surgical technician. Bill Kimball is with the Army Air Forces at Carlsbad, N. M., and Pete Larson is now at Harlingen Army Air Force Field in Harlingen, Texas.

Pfc. John Tower "helped take Cologne, hopped the Rhine, spearheaded to close the Ruhr pocket, jumped to Weser, speared to the Elbe." John is in the Armored Infantry. Ham Chase is awaiting pre-flight training at Chanute Field, Ill. Sgt. Dick Rearick is getting a chance to use the German he struggled so long to learn. Dick is with the combat engineers. Hardy Hendren, Navy Air Corps, is now half way through lowa pre-flight after V-12 for a year at Topeka, Kan. Lin Cain, Pfc., was a Pre-Aviation cadet but received his T.S. card when the cadet program was recently reduced. At present he is playing with the Band at Spence Field, Ga.

How about some more news, fellas. We're running low.

LIBERATED POW, Lt. Malcolm McLane '46, veteran fighter pilot, catches up on the Magazine issues he missed while in a German prison camp. The muchdecorated airman is the son of Judge John R. McLane '07. Malcolm was reported missing shortly after his 73rd mission and was later listed as a prisoner of war.
