With 1947 in the close offing, how about a universal resolution on the part of all '31ers to take the time at least once every six months to drop a line about your activities? If it weren't for your two stalwart class representatives, Moore and Schuldenfrei, and a very active Alumni office in Hanover I am afraid that '31 news would never seep into this Tidewater section of Virginia.
Bill Schuldenfrei comes forth with news of a really momentous double event. He says: "Just to aid your vital statistics column, Lee and I are happy with a 1946 model son, Stephen Andrew, born October 11 and a new five-room duplex apartment born October 26. I moved the furniture in in the morning and brought the family home from the hospital in the afternoon so you can appreciate the split-second timing of the operation. Pete Boynton's wife was just two doors from Lee in the hospital. They had a daughter, Esther, born approximately October 13." Congratulations to all hands.
Note, all you brethern who haven't sent a check to Bill yet: his address is now 20 North Broadway, White Plains, N. Y. Bill tells me that about two hundred of you have responded to date. What grist for the secretary's mill had you all sent a line along with your check!
'Bill Hayden reports in from the Davison-Paxon Co., in Augusta, Ga. Georgia must be as bad as Virginia in Dartmouth representation as Bill says: "No other Dartmouth men in this neighborhood so I hold monthly meetings all by myself."
"Shep" Wolff writes to Bill: "Have seen Kent, Fisher and Chase several times since reunion so in a mild way have already started your 'sectional' idea. Think I'll try to elaborate a bit and gather in more of the clan and carry the idea on a bit further. Heard from McAllister while he was on vacation and Jack Reno visited us while on his." One of the things Mary and I miss down here is the weekend we had with Chase et-al in Newton. Shep, how about a southern cruise this winter with Doc Pullen?
It is a bit of a dirty trick to flaunt Bill's new apartment when we read "Skip" Hall's letter: "We are in a hotel again after three months sub-lease at Hull Terrace while we continue our search for an apartment, the houses to buy are just junk so our address will be c/o Alva B. Winters, Golf, Ill."
Sid Rubin, who has the imposing address of: "Dep't of Justice, USAMGIK, A.P.O. 235, c/o Postmaster, San Francisco, Calif.," writes from Seoul, Korea: "Here I am out at the end of the line, for that is what Korea is. I guess that this is one of the least known places in the world. Many people have never heard of Seoul, but it is a city of a million, and fairly modern, everything considered. I'm busily at work in the drafting of legislation. Others decide policy and then we write the laws."
Ed Mecutchen brings us up to date with: "Our Dartmouth team in the Intercollegiate Alumni Bowling League here in Washington is off to a pretty good start with 8 out of 9 points for three evenings."
Ernie and Angie Moore have been covering the games this fall. Ernie writes: "Although our team's record is not too hot this fall, Angie and I are getting a bang out of attending the games. At the Holy Cross game we saw Jake March with his Dartmouth-bound son, Holly Vernon and wife, Tower and Marty Snow, Bunce and Ellie Clarkson, and Ralph Jonas with Hal Seder. At the Brown game we were late but ran into Dave Borkun and his wife with whom we had a good chat. Last Saturday we sat in front of Beany Thorn and aside of Alice and Rod Dodge. A few pews back and to our right were Bunce & Ellie again and nearby was Harry Glickman. During the half, we had a chat with Dot and Charlie McAllister who said they had seen Dutch Holland and Zora and Red Gristede.
"The only other news that I have, Jim, is a telephone chat with Rex Fall whose three kids were running riot and we made plans to get together later. We are off this weekend for a house party with the Brummers and Beans and should have more news for you after that for we're taking in the Harvard game."
