Christy invited Thyng and Brainard Rowe to go to the Manchester Dartmouth dinner, Mrs. Christophe entertaining the other two wives. These three were the only '97 men there. Brainard writes that he was much taken with Dickey, the new president.

Brainard writes also that Jimmy Pringle was thrilled to receive from all the superintendents of New Hampshire a portfolio containing a letter of appreciation from each one, with a $100 bill as a sort of frosting.
