Heald sends me the following letter dated April 26:
"On February 28, I finally retired from active service in the Massachusetts Department of Education, having been retained something more than two years after the age of seventy under the special laws for the emergency. I am therefore at my residence at 15 Fearing St., Amherst, for the present.
"I had served in the same position nearly 28 years (from June 1918) and it is nearly 55 years since I began teaching in 1891, two years before going to Dartmouth. Recently the service called for intensive work, with practically no vacation, so I am now taking a real vacation.
"As the State annuities are too small to cover living expenses, I hope soon to pick up a little on the side but have nothing definite to be mentioned at this time.
"If we change our address, I shall try to let you know. Please give my regards to any of the classmates you may meet or contact otherwise."
