1896 FIFTIETH YEAR REUNION
The Class of 1896 celebrated its Fiftieth Year Reunion at Hanover on June 28th and 29th, where the Inn provided excellent rooms for all. The first event of the day was an Open House held by Mrs. Laycock and Miss Fletcher at the Laycock residence where the Class assembled on a cool porch on a very hot afternoon.
In the evening the Class attended the President's reception in the beautiful garden of the President's House where light refreshments were served by a bevy of most attractive young girls.
On Saturday the event of the day was the meeting of the General Alumni Association where Guy Richards gave the address of the Fifty Year Class President. Guy spoke of the important periods which took place since the Class entered College—the ending of the old Dartmouth under the Bartlett Regimethe new Dartmouth inaugurated by Dr. Tucker and carried on to fruition by Ernest Martin Hopkins—the Postwar Dartmouth now being developed under President John Sloan Dickey. The complete address will have been mailed to members of the Class before this issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.
The Class Dinner on Saturday night was a most successful affair. The ladies were present at the meal and our classmate Robert L. Frost recited some choice selections from his poems. After the ladies had gone to the Play in Webster Hall, there was a short business meeting and President Dickey dropped in for a moment to extend his congratulations to the Class.
Several Classmates called on Jacquith who was convalescing from an operation at the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. Respect was paid to the memory of Hardy Richardson "Bull" Hoyt—Seldon Staples—Ben Couch and Phil Young who have passed on since our reunion in 1941.
Those attending were: Stephen Chase, Mr. and Mrs. I. J. Cox, son, sister and daughterin-law, Judge Louis S. Cox and daughter, Walter F. Duffy, Mr. and Mrs. Byron E. Eldred, Robert L.
