Dartmouth's greatness is in her men. Down through the years of the Dartmouth Fellowship, thousands upon thousands of her sons have added to the strength of the College; and among them, in each generation, some few individuals have stood apart, earning for themselves a special place in the hearts of Dartmouth men, a special respect for what they were, and a special appreciation for what their labors meant to the welfare of the College. Such a Dartmouth man was Bob Strong.
His untimely death has so stunned the College as to obscure, for the present, the full magnitude of the loss to Dartmouth and to Dartmouth men. The College transcends the individual, it is true, and other hands, loyal and capable, will take up the duties of Dean of Freshmen and Director of Admissions. But no one will take the place of Bob Strong. His warm-hearted humanity, his integrity, his essential goodness were of a special order, as was the whole man. Something of Bob Strong has been builded into Dartmouth, to her immortal good.
