Alton E. Briggs has recently retired from the office of acting librarian of the Chelsea, Mass., Public Library,—thus closing many years of service to the city; first as principal of the high school, where he made a record as an outstanding educator; then as a member of the Board of Control following the devasting fire of 1908. When the ERA existed in Chelsea he was in charge of obtaining work and projects, and more recently he has served the citizens as acting librarian of the Public Library. He can well be proud of his fine record of achievement during his long years of service of good citizenship. As a gesture of appreciation the Esquire Shop nominates him as Esquire of the week, and asks him to accept a famous Jayson shirt and beautiful McCurrach tie. We envy him the possession of the shirt.
The secretary and Mrs. Austin are enjoying the warmest season they have been privileged to spend in Florida during the past 24 years. Since they arrived in St. Petersburg in October three have been few evenings when it has been too cooi to sit on the piazza. The winter visitors are here in greater numbers than in recent years despite hard-to-get accommodations. Automobiles from every state in the Union and many provinces of Canada are seen on the streets. America is certainly going places.
