Like the hero in a Green Key Show BillSteck came through in "the nick o-time" this month with a grand report on his recent trip west. Bill says:

A friend of mine was transferred recently to Los Angeles and had to get out there in quite a hurry, so left his car behind. I drove it out for him and made a rather extended tour of it inasmuch as neither my wife nor I had ever been to the wild and wooly country before.

"The first day out, we lunched with Will Siferd at Lima, Ohio, where he has been practicing law for several years. I hadn't seen Will since graduation and must say that he has retained his youthful appearance.

We stopped at Springfield, Ill., overnight and I talked to Jim Suddutb on the telephone. It was rather late when we arrived and I got poor Jim out of bed. He's still engaged in farming and livestockfeeding.

In Denver I had lunch with Bill Grant and Ottobach. Bill is back with his Dad's law firm, but is temporarily devoting his entire time to politics. He is campaign manager for Quigg Newton, who is attempting to unseat the present Mayor of Denver. Otto is Director of the Denver Art Museum, and is up to his ears in endeavoring to put over a bond issue which will benefit the Museum.

We stayed with Jack Eliot, '32 in Pasadena. Jack was one of my roommates in college. He and Peg showed us a grand time. Bill Palmer threw a party in Hollywood and we had the pleasure of meeting his charming wife, as well as Bob Ryan's ditto ditto. It was old home week, because Bob was the gent who was responsible for my meeting Betty and Bill Palmer was among those present, during spring vacation of our senior year. Bill has become a conservative banker; not that he wasn't one previously, but he has been doing other things in the interim. Bob's handsome mug can be seen periodically on the screen of your favorite cinema.

I attended a Dartmouth Club luncheon in Los Angeles and was glad to see Walt Douglas who sports a moustache of parts, and who is the successful guiding spirit of the Hoffman Radio Company.

On the way back to Cleveland, we spent a day in Chicago and had a delightful evening with the Jack Weiserts and the John Goodwillies. Jack is president of the Bissell-Weisert Company which has just completed an expansion program. Jack is not one to carry on a regular correspondence and I was belatedly informed that the Weiserts have a daughter, two and a half years old. This is a scoop, son! I'm sure that the class notes haven't recorded the fact before.

Goodwillie is with the Dole Valve Co. He seems to have rested up fairly well after the rigors of our Frightful Fifteenth.

Back to Cleveland again. Jack Fr/sby and Baumrucker were at last week's Dartmouth Club luncheon. Jack has left the V A for a position with Prentice-Hall with headquarters in Cleveland.

That's about all, Jim. I highly recommend this procedure of seeking out our classmates in their native haunts. Try it sometime, and put me on your list.

The Ancient Mariner Winslow has kept you all so extremely well informed of recent events in his class letters that your secretary feels that he is definitely in the bush leagues. Peanut's letters have been excellent and written as only one member of the class could do them. Congratulations on a marvelous job.

Tower Snow has kept us informed of the plans for the big class picnic at the Outing Club Cabin at Groton, Mass., on May 17. Some of those participating in the plans are BunceClarkson, Adrian O'Keefe, Ed Hanuucr, OrrieHobbs, Ed Langenbach, Art Brettler, and John Boermeester. As these notes go to Hanover the outing is almost history, but here's hoping that it marks another real get-together of '31.

An announcement arrived too late for last month's news of the birth of Elizabeth Crane Bean, the fourth in the Jack Bean clan. Congratulations from the class.

It was tough to learn that we wouldn't see Ernie Moore at the conference in Hanover. Angie has had another mean session in the hospital. Bill and Mrs. Schuldenfrei were in Hanover not long ago for a vacation trip, so we may miss seeing that worthy member of the class in Hanover this month.

Will Matteson is with the Travelers Inc., Ist National Bank Bldg., Milwaukee, Wise. He is living at 1923 North 70th St.

With this column we finish the year's reporting. Please keep the news rolling in during the summer so that we can start off in the fall with all the news past and present that's fit to print. Mary joins me in an invitation to you all to have a few with us if you are ever down this way.
