Two of Dartmouth's Best Known Representatives in the Film World Discuss the Performance of the Movies as a Socially Responsible Medium
THE ALUMNI MAGAZINE this month carries forward its public opinion series with two articles on the movies as a third mass medium of public information and opinion. The press and radio as the other mass media were discussed in the two previous issues.
Walter Wanger '15, well-known movie producer, and Budd Schulberg '36, writer, are the authors of this month's installment. Even if the ALUMNI MAGAZINE were not following the plan of having its entire public opinion series written by Dartmouth men, it would have turned first to Mr. Wanger and Mr. Schulberg as its choices to discuss the movies, and it therefore feels greatly privileged to be able to present their views in this issue.
Next month the MAGAZINE will bring its five-month survey to a close with an article by Michael E. Choukas '27, Professor of Sociology at Dartmouth. A specialist in propaganda analysis, he will discuss the extent to which he feels that propaganda has infiltrated the three main channels of information and opinion in America.
