Dartmouth's freshman hockey team, led by Captain Paul Dixon, a strong defenseman, ran a string of 12 straight wins en route to a 14-3-1 record. Wingman Bill Dunbar had 28 points, including 10 goals, to lead a balanced attack that saw four other skaters each score 26 points.
Paced by guard Bill Raynor's 24.6-point average, the freshman basketball team posted a 15-4 record. The Little Indians lost two games by three points as forwards Jim Piebes (17.9), Tom Eggleston (14.8), and Greg Hannah (13.6) added to a versatile attack that averaged over 85 points per game.
With distance freestyle ace Brad Gilman of Los Angeles setting College records in the 1650- and 1000-yard events, Dartmouth's frosh swimmers churned to a 9-2 record. A victory over the Yale freshman more than offset setbacks by prep squads from Williston and Deerfield. Both of those meets were decided in the final relay.
Rick Woolworth led the freshman squash team to a 5-5 record while the frosh wrestlers were 3-2.
A stellar quartet of Captain Gipson Lyles, Pete O'Malley, Bob Spitzfadden, and Haynes Lund set a frosh two-mile relay record of 7:52.2 during a dual meet win over Andover, one of the highlights of the indoor track season that found the Little Indians unbeaten in six dual meets.
