DEAN OLSEN spent a very enjoyable and profitable four days with the Alumni of Central New York in Syracuse on February 5 to 8. On Wednesday in the good company of Bill Morton T'28, Olie toured the plant of the Precision Castings Company and that night was guest of honor at a dinner given by the officers and trustees of the Onondaga Savings Bank. On Thursday after an interesting tour of the Carrier Corporation with Fred SmithT'25, he was the guest of Mr. Cloud Wampler, President of the Carrier Corporation at lunch and that evening spoke at a dinner meeting at which he briefly discussed some of the current problems of the School and then went on to a discussion of some aspects of the current business picture.
All records for attendance and enthusiasm were broken at the Boston and New York Tuck Alumni meetings on March 12 and 13, respectively. Sixty-tour men turned out for the New York alfair. The report of the Boston Clearing House meeting did not arrive in time for us to make this number of the notes. We will have a complete report of the meeting for you next month.
Orton H. Hicks T'22 presided at the New York dinner at the Dartmouth Club. Speakers were Lawrence Fertig, advertising agency executive and World-Telegram columnist, G. Harry Chamberlaine T'22, advertising director of Good Housekeeping, and Dean Olsen. Officers unanimously elected for the coming year were Sumner D. Kilmarx T'23, Manager, and Walter J. Professor John A. Griswold spent several days in Boston during the first week in March collecting case material for the course in Financial Management. He spent the greater part of his time at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.
William A. Lieson T'33 paid us a visit a short time ago. After serving in the Navy during the war, Bill returned to the Union Trust Company in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was recently promoted to the position of Assistant Vice President and has charge of trust investments.
Harold C. McAllister I '41 has just recently been appointed Special Agent for the Phoenix Fire Insurance Company of Hartford, Connecticut. Harold's new territory is the state of Texas.
C. Lane Goss T'26 has recently been made President of the Worcester County Trust Company, Worcester, Massachusetts. Our congratulations, Lane!
Ralph Butler T'30 is author of "Designing and Packaging the Product" and co-author of "Minimizing Risks and Control of Operations," chapters in Marketing by Manufacturersturers, recently published under the editorship of Charles F. Phillips.
Robert T. Foss T'41, writes that after five years in the Army he is now employed in the Standards Department of the Dan River Mills in Danville, Virginia. His present job is that of making time studies and setting rates in a suiting mill a particularly difficult task in view of the rapid style changes.
Frederick C. Witzel T'46 will be married on April 4 to Miss Jamie E. Redwood of Mobile, Alabama. They will reside in Longmeadow, Mass. Congratulations, Fred! Since graduation Fred has been employed at the A. G. Spalding Sporting Goods Company.
Two outstanding lecturers addressed the Tuck School during the month of Februaiy: Mr. H. L. Rohde '39, Account Executive, J. M. Mathes, Inc., New York City: and Mr. John E.O'Gara T'20, Vice President and General Manager, R. H. Macy and Company, New York City. Mr. Rohde's subject was "Merchandising Activities of an Advertising Agency." Mr. O'Gara gave three lectures: the first to the class in General Management 011 the topic "General Policies and Plans lor Macy's"; the second to the c.ass in Retailing on, "Phases of Retailing"; and the third to the class in Labor Management on "Union Relationships."
