THE ANNUAL MEETING of the Chicago Association was held March 21 at the Merchants & Manufacturers Club in the Merchandise Mart. Nelson Rockefeller '30, Trustee of the College, was principal speaker and discussed President Dickey's background and splendid qualifications for directing the affairs of the College. Ross McKenney, Dartmouth's outdoor technician, impersonated Batiste Tibodo, French-Canadian guide and trapper, with a half hour of. howling stories, and closed with beautiful movies in color, depicting outdoor adventure and the beauties of nature in the White Mountains. A new slate of officers was nominated and elected as follows: Don MacKay '20, President, Connor Shaw '43, Vice President, Bob McClory '3O, Secretary, Bob Critchell '33, Treasurer, Justin Stanley '33 and Tom Beers '34, Executive Committee. About 200 alumni from this area welcomed the speakers who were making their first appearance at a meeting of our Association. BillEmbree '2l, who presided, was making his final appearance as President of the association. Under his direction the Dartmouth Alumni family from Chicagoland has become increasingly active and enthusiastic.

The Class Agents dinner was held at the University Club on March 27 with the following out-of-towners attending: Kent Smith '15 from Cleveland, Bill McKenzie '16 from Akron, Dave Garratt 'lB from New York, Dick Holton 'lB from Brooklyn (Dick is Chairman of this year's fund) Al Foley '20 from Hanover, Herb Chase '30 from Boston, Don Coyle '24 and L. D. Pfeifle '44 from New York and Jim McElroy '31 from Toledo. The Senior representative from Chicago was Ben George 'B4. The crowd roared at Al Foley's impersonation of Craven Laycock welcoming a freshman class to the College.

Captain A. W. Gorton '20, known to his classmates as Jake Gorton, is presently stationed at the Naval Air Station at Glenview, 111. Jake has been in the Navy most of the time since World War I and is scheduled for retirement in two years.

Patricia Maloney, now graduated from Smith and daughter of Pat Maloney '13, who is Managing Editor of the Chicago Tribune, recently became Mrs. Latimer D. Johns.

A crowd of 75 men turned out to hear Herb West '22 on his recent western jaunt. Herb spoke about the need for a younger, more vigorous and better paid faculty at the College and expressed implicit faith in President Dickey to keep Dartmouth as one of the great educational and intellectual institutions of the country. He reported that the present student body was getting a better education than any which the College had heretofore afforded and he stated that he thought that the College needed criticism in order to continue to improve.
