There is little news for the troops tonight. As a matter of fact I have received no letters from Fred Pfau so there must be a lack of interest or some such animal. Commencement and the Reunion are coming up soon as you can see from the last news column.
Jack Havens is running the Bijou Theater in Glens Falls,- N. Y., for Mr. Schine. Our boy is very successful in the business field, and according to his latest word he is as hard as nails, naturally. On 13 March 1947 Miss Ruth Elizabeth Secord was married to Joseph DanielHayes Jr. of Newtonville, Mass. Congratulations are in order for the new Mr. and Mrs. Hayes. The engagement of Miss Elizabeth Blanchard to Leonard A. Schecter of New York City was announced on 25 March 1947. Again bouquets and Congrats. Also the engagement of Miss Jean K. Kistler to Alan L. Duke, now of Tuck School, was announced on the 3rd of April. More flowers and joy. Nicely done and the very best to all of you.
That is the end of all the news. This is also the last column of this academic year. Hardly a good note to end on, but get on the ball so that the lad who writes this section next year will have the gear to work with. Thank you for your letter writing and interest this year even though it was not above par. Enough said. Don't forget the Reunion of DNAA on the weekend of June 13-15.
A tragic auto accident that saddened the entire campus and that was especially bad news for the DNAA resulted in the death May Bth of three former members of the Dartmouth Navy V-12 Unit. Those killed were Frederick T. Sillars '48, who was in the Marine rine Corps detachment here; Charles K. Long '48, who was commissioned an Ensign after leaving Hanover; and John Lopez '47, also commissioned an Ensign after his Dartmouth naval studies. Details about the accident, which happened at North Hartland, Vt., in the early morning hours while the boys were on their way south to pick up their Green Key dates, will be found in the College News section of this issue. We extend our deepest sympathy to the families of these three fine men who will be greatly missed.
