With much confusion and many apologies, this column finally resumes operation, lo these many months after losing the almost irreplaceable Danny Carroll to the vicissitudes of higher education. Dan is now one of many who has heard the "Theme to the West." He is currently enrolled in the University of Minnesota where he is doing graduate study in political science. The latest word from him informed your correspondent that Dan was very satisfied with the set-up at the U. of M.

Since your correspondent has not had much contact with the outlying districts for the past year or so, I'll have to rely upon my faithful readers to swamp me with news of the hinterland for all later issues and confine my news to happenings in these parts-these parts being the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Yours truly is now finishing up his second year of graduate study in Zoology, and from the progress I'm making it looks like I might be here for some time to come. For those of you who have been completely out of touch with startling events for some time I might add that I have a red-headed wife and, of course, a red-headed son. What other color would you expect? One of the sharpest characters that I run into quite frequently is Hank (Seaman)Beaman, who is currently here doing graduate work in mathematics. He has one of the most complete collections of Duke Ellington records I've ever had the pleasure of hearing so I see him quite often. Besides that, Beaman dishes out the hamburgers at the joint where I catch my late evening snacks.

Another former Dartmouth V-12'er who crosses my path quite often is Bill Threinen. Bill finished undergraduate school here at Wisconsin last summer and is now working for the Wisconsin Fish and Wildlife Service. Sometime in April he is taking a trip east to marry a maid from Waltham, Mass. More details on this in the next newsletter. A couple of months ago, yours truly walked into a local flick and bumped into David Fike. He is a local lad and, in whispered conversation, it was learned that Dave was marking time until Northwestern University School of Medicine beckoned him. Just when that is, I didn't learn since the feature finished at this point in the conversation and we were mobbed.

Last summer I was speaking to Rog Dunkleman when I chanced to meet him around a cup of coffee. He had just finished his undergraduate work on this campus and was leaving immediately for a summer's work in Europe and then on to Palestine to do graduate work at the Hebrew University. We surely would like to hear from Rog to get a direct inside report on the fracas going on over there. Speaking of travelers, one of the recent issues of the AVC Bulletin carried a small item to the effect that Sandy Gottlieb from Brooklyn had recently left for France to do graduate study at the Sorbonne. We've .often wondered if this is the same Sandy Gottlieb we knew back at Dartmouth. He was a native of the province of Brooklyn and very active in the American Veterans' Committee. We'd like to get some confirmation on this point.

Your correspondent was very surprised to bump into Jerry Malinske here on the Wisconsin campus last September. When last seen on the Hanover Plain, he was headed for Marquette University in Milwaukee and it seems that Jerry is now out here getting a Master's degree in Pharmacy. Another Dartmouth V-12'er whom I see quite often here on campus is Charles Buerki, an old sidekick of JoeDavenport. We've both often wondered what ever became of Joe. When last heard from, Joe was selling insurance in Chicago. Occasionally I run into Leon Schur on the Wisconsin campus but I've never been able to find out how he made out during the war years. George Flory is also here on campus doing graduate work in Mechanical Engineering. Some may remember Flory as a Salt from Baton Rouge who came in from the fleet with Owen Butler.

We have only two news items to offer concerning the Marine Corps. One is that we have seen Knowlton Levenick on this campus three or four times during the past two years. We know from the student directory that he is a married man.but other than that we know nothing. The other.item is that Syl Baudhuin is attending the Marquette University School of Engineering. In case anyone is interested, his address is Apt. 21-D, Grandview Hts., Waukesha, Wisconsin. As some of you may know he married Fran Goodrich of Hanover and they now have a year-old bouncing boy.

On checking over my mail and memory, I find that I have cleaned the slate and have nothing else to offer. This leaves the future columns and newsletters up to you. A long newsy letter from each and every one would be a very welcome sight. However, just in case you can't find time for such a letter, I beg on bended knee at least a postcard. In desperation I can stretch that into at least a small paragraph. If you want to get in touch with one of your old sidekicks, your address could be printed in this column providing you send along a little news of yourself. In case you didn't notice the mailing address at the top of this column it is: J. H. COPENHAVER JR., DEPT. OF ZOOLOGY, UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN, MADISON, WISCONSIN.
