I have just received a postal card from classmate Loud. He writes as follows: "Have taken the liberty of sharing with you and the Mrs. some of the joy we had on New Year's Day in Pasadena, while you folks were thinking of very different things.
"As you will note there are 15 different places for it to go, and one party has already kept it about a month. Of course, take all the time you need, but don't go on a vacation and leave it home on the piano. Sign in back and be sure to get signatures of all with whom you share it. Hope you will enjoy it. The next party is my cousin, who is in a Home for Arthritics, flat on her back.
"Had a nice letter from Rice yesterday. He tell on the ice and injured his shoulder. No tennis."
This needs explanation. Here it is. We have all heard of the Rose Bowl and the annual Tournament of Roses which is a festival of flowers, pretty girls and football giants displayed once a year at Pasadena. I saw this remarkable display thirty years ago. Since then it has grown to be a national event of great beauty and interest.
Loud refers to a gay colorful brochure issued each year reporting to the world by beautiful pictures and the written word what last was done and seen at the Tournament of Roses. Loud sent me the latest magazine-brochure and with it sent a list of names of his friends requesting that the magazine de luxe be sent to the person whose name and address is next in order.
"Sliver's" name is on this list. He will soon be receiving the brochure.
