The folks in Oldtown, Maine, are reading their local paper with new enthusiasm and interest. John McKernan, former Associated Press reporter and more recently on the staff of The Bangor Daily News, has recently become edtior and publisher of Oldtown's weekly.

In the paper we read here in N. Y., we spotted this headline not long ago: "Machinist Held in Dartmouth Alumni Thefts." Reading further, we found that a guy broke into the home of El Doyle, an officer of the Long Island Dartmouth Alumni group, and pilfered some checks El was planning to deposit. Everything worked out okay, since the thief was apprehended when attempting to cash some of the funds.

We learn, through usually reliable quarters, that Dick Spong is taking a leave of absence from his teaching job, to go to Paris. Purpose: research and writing for his new book, He's Right Coming Out. We've heard that Dick's publishers are enthusiastic about this forthcoming novel. Bon voyage, Dick, and cherchez la research!

A June wedding is planned for Miss Joan Aldrich, New York City, and John Knowlton. Both are completing graduate studies for degrees at the New York University Institute of Fine Arts. John is presently on the faculty of Swarthmore College.

Rog Morse filled in his Tithe information sheet, passed it on to Jacko Morrison, who passed it on to us—for re-routing to JoeCunningham. Since Joe is getting a full measure of the news from you all, he'll not get the chance to report that Rog is enjoying his new job at General Electric in West Lynn, Mass. He's in the accounting department of the Meter and Instrument division.

Lt. Col. John Bouker lists his address as Amphibious Warfare School, Senior Course, Marine Barracks, Quantico, Va. We have no idea whether he's instructing or studying.

Steve Dietz has come east from Seattle to join the executive staff of Ted Bates, Inc., N. Y. advertising agency. His main concern, besides the advertising of Standard Brands, is the completion of a house outside of the city, into which he soon hopes to move his family.

The picnic season is right around the corner. By the time you read this, it will be here. And before you know it, it will be time for all '36ers in the Long Island-ConnecticutN.Y.C. area to pack up their box suppers and head for Old Greenwich, Conn. Ruth and Ed Brooks have kindly offered their home and facilities for the shindig on July 24—that's a Saturday. More details later.

It's never too late to send in your Alumni Fund contribution. If you haven't done so already, make it soon—and as large as you can.
