Again, your Secretary is called on to report two '07 deaths.
A brief report has already appeared in the July MAGAZINE of the death of Frank Garby on January 8 in San Francisco. His death was caused by a heart attack and buxial was in San Francisco, which had been his home for most of his life since graduation. His brother, H. M. Garby of East Hartford, Conn., supplies this record of Frank's activities since he left Hanover. Employed by E. H. Rollins, investment bankers in Boston, as a salesman for a short period, he became their sales representative in San Francisco. After several years he became a partner in his own investment firm, and at a later period established a business called "Bonded Credit Service." Classmates will recall his interest in golf, which continued throughout his life. His brother reports that his other principal hobby was cooking. Married in 1911, a separation took place some years later, and Frank lived a bachelor's life thereafter.
Ralph A. Smead died in Los Angeles on July 6. After graduation from Dartmouth, he went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received an engineering degree. For some years he practiced his profession as a consulting engineer and architect in Hartford, Conn., and Detroit, Mich., and for the last twenty years of his life in Los Angeles, where he was employed by the city government. He leaves his widow and a sister, Mrs. Wing, whose home is in Orange, Mass. There were no children.
'07 held an informal, off-year reunion at Hanover during reunion week in June. Those who participated reported a very enjoyable experience. The fact that the classes of '04, '05 and '09 were holding regular reunions added much to the pleasure of the small '07 group. Those who were" present were GeorgeGrebenstein, accompanied by his wife and daughter; Rip Heneage; Bill Walker; Mr.and Mrs. Sam Bartlett; Guy Merrill; DickSouthgate; Bob and Mrs. Kerry on; Albert andMrs. Stevens; Jack Hammond; George Liscomb and Bill Smart.
The following concerning an esteemed classmate appeared in the Lynn, Massachusetts, Telegram News on June 14 in the column entitled, "Whispers from Below" by "Scuttlebutt Steve": "And I am happy to wish my old comrade Joe Coburn, and scholar, the best of his years in retirement. A graduate of Dartmouth College, Joe served with distinction in the Yankee Division, and his greatest honor is that he is a friend of man."
George Howard and his daughter Elizabeth planned to sail on the Queen Elizabeth for England on August 5. They expected to remain in England for a week, to spend a few days in France and in Italy, and to return on the Queen Elizabeth from Cherbourg on September 1.
'07 visitors to Hanover during the summer were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kelly; Morris Smith;Tom and Mrs. Reilly; Sam and Mrs. Bartlett;Dick and Mrs. Lane; Bishop Ben and Mrs.Washburn; Crick and Mrs. Crocker—and no doubt others not reported.
The marriage of Sally Woodworth, daughter of Charles and Sarah Woodworth, to Charles Theodore Gallagher, was celebrated in June at Rye Beach, N. H.
The marriage of Peter Heneage, youngest son of Harry and Marguerite Heneage, will take place in Hanover on September 10. The bride-to-be is Miss Jacqueline Pressey, daughter of Professor and Mrs. Pressey of Hanover. Miss Pressey attended Wellesley College, was graduated from the University of New Hampshire and has been studying at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Peter, who served in the Pacific in the Army for three years, attended Dartmouth and was graduated from the University of New Hampshire.
