"They have such refined and delicate palates That they can discover no one worthy of their ballots, And when someone terrible gets elected They say, There, that's just what I expected!"
(Ogden Nash)
BUT NOT UP HERE on THE GREAT DIVIDE. WE turn out! WE have new officers second to none in the whole Dartmouth family! (Names unknown at this writing but they're the best.) Our Stetson's off to those retiring: Bill Grant '3l, Eddie Toothaker '32, and Norrie Williamson '26—and to all the committee stalwarts who've done such a bang-up job.
"HOW MANY were there, Rick (Rickenbaugh '28)?" "Well, we had 75 carnations and the gals were still pouring in when the last one was pinned on. Must have been at least 20 stags too—always are." WHERE? Where else but—the Christmas Cocktail Party at the University Club December 22. The low-light of the evening was our Prexy's pass (of the YaleDartmouth football presented to the Alumni by Dick Catron '50 and Casey McKibben '51) intended for Bob More '13 and Zack Jordan '19 but which hit a tray load of martinis en route—its been our prize possession ever since. Here's the DITTY which accompanied the presentation of said Yale-Dartmouth football:
"To you old bucks of our great tribe, We bring this trophy all inscribed. On the 30th day of last October We left Old Dartmouth high but sober. With tomahawks raised, New Haven bound, We filled the bowl and scalped the hound. The Green hit hard and ran up a score, As the crowd went wild and cheered Spook Spoor. We thought of you all—a hundred strong, Rickenbaugh, Cunningham, Williamson, Long; And wished that you might be there to see A game played once a century. SO—to all the alums in this grand crowd, We want you to know we're really proud To present this token—in appreciationTo the best damn guys in this whole Nation."
The HOLIDAY LUNCHEON which followed on December 29 at the Cosmo was punctuated by stupendous addresses from our freshmen—each was given 2 minutes to talk and each spoke for at least 15—while us old fellers groaned and held our sides to keep them from splitting wide open. Don't you wish they'd had that course in "Tall Ones" when we were back there—years ago? Maybe some of you broad-bottomed stay-at-homes would like to know who was there:

DickPrice '46 has moved to a law job in El Paso, Texas. Bill David '41 now instructing International Relations at D.U. Will Nicholson '22 recently had a short tour of duty with the Army. That's the stuff, Fletcher! Ed Nicholson '49 is listed with the "Men of Distinctive Scholastic Achievement."
WHAT IS THIS WORLD coming to any- way? Be at the next monthly luncheon Friday, February 25, and you'll find out!
PRIZED DAGUERREOTYPES OF FAMOUS GRADUATES are presented to Harold G. Rugg '06, assistant librarian, by Donald J. Mix '21 (right), secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Worcester County, at the Club's annual Fellowship Luncheon on Dec. 28. Frank L. Harrington '24 (second from left), club president, and Thomas E. O'Connell '5O, principal speaker, look on. The daguerreotypes, which have been placed in the exhibition cases near the main entrance of Baker Memorial Library, are reproductions of portraits of Rufus Choate (left) and Daniel Webster, painted by the late William Willard of Southbridge, Mass. The Webster portrait, made three weeks before his death, is considered one of the best likenesses of him in existence.
