On Monday evening, February 7, the Saturn Club in Buffalo was the scene of the annual dinner meeting of the Western New York Club. For a number of years the speaker at the annual dinner has been either an officer of the College or a member of the athletic department. This year, departing from the usual tradition, the club embraced the "Hanover Holiday" idea endorsed by the College, and had as a guest speaker, Dimitri von Mohrenschildt, Professor of Russian History and Literature. His talk on "Russia After the War" was most timely and was exceptionally well received by all present.
Almost ninety people, consisting of alumni, their wives, and parents of several undergraduates, attended the meeting, which started with a cocktail party at 7 for Professor von Mohrenschildt, and was followed by dinner at 8. After the customary brief business meeting, the guest of honor proceeded with his talk. Prior to the evening meeting, Professor von Mohrenschildt was entertained at luncheon at the Buffalo Athletic Club by the four club officers and four other members of the executive committee.
Elected to the executive committee for three year terms were Don Scully '18, Sherm Little '29, Charlie Winkler '35, Bob Anthony '45 and Dick Leary '46. Retiring members of the committee are Carl Wicker '14, Charlie Abbott '26, Paul Venneman '26, Steve Cochrane '37 and Jim Biggie '47. The retiring officers of the club are President Ed Marlette '41, Vice-president Rog Arnold '44, Treasurer Lew Harriman, Jr. '38 and Secretary Paul Venneman '26. Their successors will be elected from the membership of the executive committee at its first meeting, in accordance with the club by-laws, and will be announced in the next issue of the MAGAZINE.
Plans for the forthcoming Glee Club concert on April 7, 1949 are completed and a large turnout is expected. Tickets will be on sale in March and everyone is urged to support this event to make it a financial success.
