We have a coach in this locality who allows that when his team can't win a game, there is always one smiling fellow who has a pat on the back for him who tells him that he is doing a great job building character .... that after all, winning isn't everything ... that last game was really close too next year will surely be a BIG YEAR. Guess who? The salesman for a sports equipment firm. (Order book in hand.)
We're glad Tuss isn't wanly looking around for such thin support. THIS YEAR was a GREAT YEAR. Congratulations Tuss! Congratulations football men! We loved it! We didn't have to explain where Dartmouth is; that in addition to other qualifications it has a football team. They KNEW it!
With this happy close to the football season we spun a party at the Houston Country Club on Thanksgiving Eve. This one was not for MEN ONLY. Ladies were invited, and what's more, they came. They knew about our football team, too. We were glad to welcome to a party for the first time Dr.Carl F. Shaffer '36, and wife. Practice of internal medicine has evidently been keeping Carl away, but we expect him and his attractive wife to be regulars from now on. We had a steak later at the Ritz with SteveChase Jr. '25 and James Towsen '44 and their wives, who are, incidentally, both worth a second look. The party we started to tell about was most pleasant and interesting.
Present were the following alumni with wives and guests: Kim Ayers '39, Steve Chase Jr. '25, Dwight Edson 'lB, Dudley Ferguson '3O, Bob Garwick '42, Dave Hedges '34, John Hoyt '34, George Jacob '39, H. J. McClellan 'l6, Ben Page '42, Wendell Phillips '2B, Chas. Robertson '2B, Carl Shaffer '36, Wendell Steward '3l, Bill Thaxton '43, Jim Towsen '44, Cy Worth '29, Harlan Taylor '29 (proxy).
