PREFACE
Cap Palmer sends his articles to me for checking of class numerals, names, etc.—this time was no exception. After reading his material, I found that this shrinking little violet, probably overcome with the usual modesty of an MGM writer, had omitted the most important news of all.
He neglected to mention the fact that the highlight of the annual meeting was a sincere message of praise delivered by President-elect Bill Adams. Its subject was Cap Palmer, his untiring labors for the Southern California Association, the events of his successful year as president, and the man's undying devotion to the College. Bill concluded his remarks with a presentation to Cap of a Dartmouth weathervanenow very appropriately domiciled atop the Palmer residence.

Back East everybody goes away for the summer, but out here what they go away for are Dartmouth events. Five, count 'em, five of them in the three hot months.
The schedule warmed up in late May with the annual and-wives affair, popularly but inaccurately known as the Bisexual Party. This year 250 of us took over the whole lower floor at the famous Drunkard Theater to lap up sandwiches and beer as we hissed the villain, warned the heroine, and groaned as the cleancut high-type hero fell victim to Demon Bourbon. Bob Williams '26 and Dan Dinsmore '16 moved in during the oleo to handle the Dartmouth songs, and about midnight we took the place over entirely to celebrate the 46th anniversary of the founding of the local club, hold what we claim was an annual meeting, and elect the new list of officers.
Frank Danzig '37 not only got the idea in the first place, but ran the show superbly, with a big assist from hard-working Ed and Sara Ramsey '35 on the ticket sale, HowieAlmon '22 on the promotion, and others I wish we had space to list.
The new officers are: President, Bill Adams '34; Veeps, Danzig and Bob Williams; Secretary, Leon I. (for Invariably) Rothschild '24; Treasurer, Dave Boyle '40; Asst. Secretaries, Ed Ramsey and Sandy Treat '46; Two-year directors, Cap Palmer '23, Howie Almon, and Frank McEntee '29; One-year directors, ChapWentworth '4O, Dick Rogers '29, and BobGuggetiheim '33.
In mid-July Dave Boyle and his New Blood staged their annual Family Frolic for the lower classes (numerically, that is; '35 to '50). Bob Fletcher '39 promoted the Beverly Hills Polo Club and played second base on horseback. The committee system for these affairs is on a strictly hey-you basis, but observed to be busier than others were Don Worden '40, Bob Wilheim '39, Dusty Rhodes '41, and Rudy Pacht and Ed Ramsey of '35.
The next of the annual events (it's getting so a program chairman doesn't have to think for himself at all any more) was the Deep Sea Fishing Cruise, which filled the cabin cruiser Long Fin to capacity and had the luck to smack square into an albacore school. These albacore run twenty pounds or better, all fighting muscle. Wayne Ballentyne '37 and Ken Shafer '48 tied for the top catch with three each, Reg Gresley '26 got the big one for the day (34 lbs.); Rothschild, JohnnyLyman '28, and official photographer WillHays '31 also scored, and everybody brought home a sunburn.
Having joined with the local alumni of Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell and Penn in forming the new Ivy League Conference of So. Cal., on August 16 we shipped our undergraduates and almost-freshmen to a big Get-Acquainted Dance at the Huntington Hotel, where they and their young Ivy rivals met the local girls who are going back to Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Mt. Hoi yoke, Radcliffe, Smith, Vassar, and Wellesley. Neat idea, huh? And why didn't somebody think of it while we were there? Bill Adams and Murray Hawkins 'l9 and their wives, who shepherded our delegation, report that the kids did very well for themselves.
The lads were again our guests at the annual Undergraduate Luncheon at the Chapman Park Hotel on August 31, where they made new acquaintanceships, solidified old ones, and the sub-freshmen got some advance tips from the old hands. Adams presided, and Hawkins was heard from to the effect that we are sending back ten freshman this year (young Tepper won the Johnson Scholarship). ... three of our four men in '5O graduated cum laude Ted Laskin '51 is editor-inchief of The Dartmouth, and Lee Coulter '52 is president of Green Key, abetted by football's Vince Jones '52. The boys stayed around most of the afternoon getting shaken down into a unit. They'll do fine.
