News appears to be pretty slim this month, my most prolific sources of information having, at this time of the year, dried up. All the boys must have paid their class dues because Ralph Pettingell has sent me no communications that he receives in connection with remittances. The Alumni Fund Campaign is not yet under way so I have not received notes that Eddie Luitwieler and Lyme Armes relay to me from their activities. Not having the facile pen—or typewriter—of Lyme Armes, I cannot create a whole column built around a single item of news. Therefore I am going to "crib" from his Christmas issue of TheBillboard. Before doing so however I will pass on the material in hand.
The many Christmas cards that I received were duly appreciated and I wish I could give the whole list of those sending their greetings to the class. However, one that must be mentioned came from AlexandraHedlund from Hanover: "A pack of joy, a heap of fun, Merry Christmas Everyone in the Class of 1912." Another is reproduced herewith,—a picture of Ruel and Hazel Gibbs and grandson, John Garretson III, son of daughter Martha and John Garretson '42.
Among the unsung stalwarts of the alumni who perform the day-to-day necessary chores to make the alumni activities of the College function, are those who serve on alumni committees throughout the country interviewing candidates for admission to Dartmouth. Classmates who are thus deserving of recognition for this work include HoneyBrooks, in the New York area; Husky DeMerritt in Hawaii; Tex Morris in La Jolla, Calif, and Dick Plumer in Florida,—and probably others of whom I am not aware. In the same vein should be mentioned those assistants of Eddie Luitwieler who so nobly give their efforts during the Alumni Fund Campaign. When Eddie establishes his organization for this year, tributes will be paid.
Henry Van Dyne's son-in-law, Osmun Skinner '2B, is Chairman of the Committee on Informal Class Reunions of the Class Secretaries' Association, from whom a communication is received asking whether our class, following the example of a number of other classes, desires to arrange for an "Extra Reunion" at Hanover either during the summer or winter. He says "Reunions of this type have been found so worthwhile and popular among other classes that we hope you will let us work with you to start the tradition in your class." I will be interested to know how many classmates would consider an "Extra Reunion" next summer, because if there is sufficient anticipated attendance, I will see what we can do to work up such an occasion.
When Doc O'Connor was in Cleveland just before Christmas, Hal Baker and his wife had a visit with Doc.

In the newsy communications that appeared in the Christmas issue of The Billboard, interspersed with Lyme Armes's pithy comments, so many familiar names appear that news of them bears repetition. From California, Sam Hobbs wrote that once in awhile he sees Oley Ahlswede and Jim Oneal, both retired, and hears from Chesty Brown in Baltimore, Joe Doe of Tuckahoe, New York, Colonel Jack Brewster in the Forty Fort Pennsylvania real estate marts, and Dutch Waterbury in Puerto Rico. (Incidentally, Sam, I reported a rumor that Dutch was in Denver to see his grandchildren, going there directly from the Pennsylvania game.)
Elmer Chapman reports on a number of classmates, the most interesting news being that Lyle Chase, who is connected with the Detroit Department of Health, sees EddieDaley and Red Leach once in awhile. Apparently Lyle was married not long ago and, on his honeymoon, had a visit with Agnes Ryan, wife of Henry Bailey Stevens, at their University of New Hampshire abode in Durham.
(How about giving us the vital statistics, Lyle?)
Bill Butler, who runs the San Jose, Calif., Hospital, reported that while attending a convention in Cleveland he shared a gabfest meal with Scott Rogers, Chet New comb and Irv Putnam.
More from Lyme's "gleanings" in the future.
ENJOYING CHRISTMAS with his grandparents. Hazel and Ruel Gibbs '12, John Garretson 111 has a good Dartmouth outlook on things. His father is John Garretson '42, his mother the former Martha Gibbs.
