It was good to have Woody Parker's picture adorn this column in the March issue. Thanks to Woody and the brave class agents who preceded him, '94 has contributed the largest total amount to the Alumni Fund of any class in. our decade. This year, Woody secured for us the largest percentage of objective of any class in our decade. It took some sleight of hand for Woody to secure "94" as our participation index this year, but he did it.
Mrs. Arthur Adams has written about the death of Mrs. Maurice Sherman which took place at the Hartford Hospital on March 14. She had been in the hospital since Thanksgiving. It was an interesting and delightful coincidence that while she was in the hospital her granddaughter was born and she was able to hold her in her arms. Mrs. Sherman belonged to that considerable company of '94 wives who are bona fide members of the family. Her daughter Janet, Mrs. Boardman Lockwood, lives at 62 Greenhurst Road, West Hartford.
The writer of this column has been having a correspondence with Kid Martyn with reference to the decision of the Brooklyn justice which, for the time has effectually blocked the proposed union of the Congregational Christian Churches with the Evangelical and Reformed Church, a project to which this columnist has given a good deal of time in recent years. However, the most important item in this correspondence for our present purpose is the word that the Kid tells us about the observance of his 50th wedding anniversary which took place June 27. It was a quiet celebration at the Martyn home. Says the Kid: "The celebration was confined to immediate members of my family and in-laws, which constitute a substantial group as I now have 14 grandchildren, with another on the way, and three great-grandchildren." Lucky the Kid has a sizable house, else he would have to have hired a public hall. So '94 perpetuates itself. Hearty congratulations to the Martyns.
Our class salutatorian poses this question: "Who in the class has ever been a crank on bowling for exercise (like myself)?" Send replies to 141-48 33rd Avenue, Flushing, N. Y.
The Boston '94 gang has been reduced to four, at least so far as the regulars are concerned: Lyon, Marden, C. C. Merrill, B. A.Smalley. These met Thursday, March 30. They hope that the next meeting will be increased by Billy Ames and Jim McGroty, who have been hibernating in Florida. In this connection there may be reported the presence of Phil Marden at the Hanover Inn on March 9 and 10.
Word has just been received of the death of Billy Wallis which took place in Washington, D. C., April 2, after a severe illness. A memorial sketch will be prepared for the June issue of the MAGAZINE.
