Since this column this month is accompanied by a list of the contributors to the Alumni Fund it is appropriate and pleasant to express appreciation to our Class Agent for his initial success which is suggested by the list of contributors and also by our standing among the classes. You have done a good job, Kent, and we all thank you for it. In this connection it is also very pleasant to say that Kent is now a proud grandfather. He announced it in his letter to the fall Round-Up. However, he didn't say whether it was a boy or girl. Which is it, Kent? Also in the same letter Kent makes the very significant observation that it is "not very long before next June." Indeed, it isn't. Have you all got the date down in your engagement books? '94's Sixtieth will begin June 1954.
Echoes from the Round-Up. First fromMrs. Dwight Hall:
The Dartmouth plates arrived a few days ago and I appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity of the '94 boys in sending this fine gift to me. In using them I will be reminded, with a great deal of pleasure, of the '94 Round-Up on October 2, 1953.
Next from Mrs. Catharine Jones Babcock:
I am always so happy to know that the Roundups continue. They seem a very living memorial to both Mother and Dad, and needless to say I am terribly pleased to be invited. 'With best regards to you and Mrs. Hall and all of 94.
Finally from Gib: On the occasion last year of the Billy Ames initial commemoration of the Matt Jones RoundUD, I offered a suggestion which you had already adopted in advance, a suggestion in which I took no credit to myself; in the first place because it came all too late and, second, since many of you were already thinking along the same line: namely, a resolution that all living members of the Class should make every effort possible to meet once each year in some '94 home, so long as any two of us should remain above ground to extend the invitation.
With regard to Bud Lyon, from EddieGrover:
How terribly sad about Bud Lyon! He was my roommate our senior year in the C & G house. He was a rare man, strong and straight as an oak tree, yet with a native humor that was contagious. I had planned long visits with him next June at our 60th reunion!
From Mrs. Lyon:
Bert's great strength stood between us and any hard or difficult thing which came to us and while the way ahead looks impossible to me now I hope to be able to carry on as I know he would want and expect. The men of '94 were very close to him, his Dartmouth associations a vital part of his life, and the reunions were something he looked forward to with keenest pleasure.
