A last minute flurry of news saved you from a column devoted to the misguided meanderings of ye olde Tuck II crew, but there are a few of their monikers sprinkled throughout the report anyhow. Such a bunch of lonesome Lotharios properly ought to be acknowledged, however, so we'll give them their due before the report peters out. As usual, we start at...

THE HITCHING POST

The first item has already appeared in the noble writings of our elder correspondent Mr. Zeiser, but since we have the records and the clipping, we're repeating it where we think it belongs. Dave Kinney and Margaret Joanne Wilson were married in the Church of Christ in Hanover, December 16. Ushers were Sandy and Neil McCulloch, cousins of the groom. Sandy's a salesman for the Rayon Processing Company of Rhode Island, Inc. The bride graduated from Pembroke last year, by the way.

Len Matless was married to Susan Van Auken December 27 in Bloomfield, N. J. Len's Field Executive with the Boy Scouts of America Aheka Council, Inc. Bruce Borden was among the ushers.

Here's another one of those real all-Dartmouth nuptials, this one in Buffalo. BillyDann wed Marion Taylor on December 30. Among the ushers were Nob Hovde, BillyTaylor, Nelly Graves and Lud Truscott. The bride's a Briarcliff Junior, class of '49.

Rog Hillas tied the knot with Mary Elizabeth Arnold of Ridgewood, N. J., December 30, too. She graduated from Wheaton the same day we were bedecked in caps and gowns in Hanover. Rog's brother Roland A. Hillas Jr. '40 was best man. Inkadentally, following a Florida honeymoon, Rog gave the better half a nice birthday present: he went back on active duty with the Navy. Fine way to act, fine way to act.

Dick Ledyard married Theckla Constable in The Little Church Around the Corner, December 30. She graduated from GoodyearBurlingame School and attended the College of Fine Arts, Syracuse University, and Katy Gibbs in NYC. Dick's with the Graybar Electric Company.

H. Grant Keeler, "known to his friends as 'The Green Gobbler,' " says Bill Frenzel, married Gerry Smith of Glen Ridge, N. J., February 3.

According to the paper, Bob Shnayerson and Lydia Conde Todd were hitched in December. The gal graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and is a teacher at the Riverdale Country School for Girls in New York. Bob's on the staff of Life Magazine.

Bill Hawkins was married February 3 to Miss Helen Maude Schimmenti who attended Greenbrier College and was graduated from Wheaton summa cum laude last June. Bill's one of Alcoa's sales engineers.

WALKING THE LAST MILE

A swell note from Larry Batty indicates his efforts in "the school of hard knocks" consist of being a New England representative for the Mallinckrodt Chemical Works of New York and St. Louis. Larry says it's pretty interesting calling on both big and little firms and trying to learn about the 2000 items the company carries. Big news for him, however, is the fact that he's engaged to Miss Eleanor M. Trumpold of Methuen, Mass. The announcement was made Labor Day. She's a Pembroke College graduate. April seems to be the month unless Uncle Sam gets Larry first.

Here's an old item we just got: Don Meenen's engagement to Ella Ann Douglas in October.

Ell Loeb and Joan Helfand have been engaged since November. She is a senior at Goucher College.

Alton Wentworth, and Cynthia Ann Watts were also betrothed in November. Cynthia, sister of Howie Watts, graduated from Emma Willard and attended Finch Junior College. Alton is with the Seymour (Conn.) Manufacturing Company.

Announcement of the engagement of JohnGammie and Louise Reed MacNair was made December 3. She's a Vassar senior; John's at Union Theological Seminary.

Jack Elliott reports his engagement to Ann Moulton on December 19. Ann, a Smith grad last June, is Johnny Moulton's sister. Jack says he may have to go back in the Navy before March 6, the date set for the wedding, but that's indefinite. He also mentioned seeing Pieter von Herrmann in Pasadena over Christmas. Pete is doing grad work at Cal in preparation for being an atomic physicist.

Walt Freund and Priscilla Deane's engagement was announced January 3. Miss D. attended Swarthmore College and is a junior at Smith. Walt's at the Temple University med school.

The engagement of Suzanne Gale Redding and Ken Sutherland was announced January 7. She's an alumna of Bennett Junior College. Ken's been recalled by the Marine Corps.

Harry Van Benschoten finally succumbed to the wiles of Mary Louise Bradley on February 6. She's an Endicott Junior College graduate from Drexel Park, Pa. They've set June 23 as the date. Van Bubbly tells us he plans to grab off some law school and a C. P. A., which is a pretty ambitious program.

Bob Thomson and Julia Hall Elliott of Shippan Point, Conn., are engaged. She is a graduate of Katharine Gibbs School.

These next two notes might better be under a title called "Walking the Endless Miles," but we'll follow our past plan of including them here. Dick and Janet Ziesing report that Richard Jr. arrived January 9, a seven-pound, sixouncer. And Charley and Barbara Wilkinson are the proud parents of their second papoose. The gal's name is Wendy, five pounds and five ounces, who put in an appearance January 12 in Springfield, Mass.

INKADENTAL INTELLIGENTZ

Jim Hutton writes that he is an underwriter and estate planner with New England Mutual Life Insurance Company of Boston and planning a trip through South America for six weeks beginning in February, hitting Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil, "if the Navy does not call me first."

Jim Birney got off a real longy from Alexandria, Va., where he is studying at Virginia Theological Seminary. He and Ed Nutt displayed musical virtuosity on mandolin and banjo in the pre-Christmas show put on at the school. Jim's planning to work in the Concord, N. H., Mental Hospital this summer as part of his Seminary course while Biz and son Gil vacation in Maine.

Roger Gaylord reports no activities in the marital bliss department, but is equally undisturbed by martial callings either. Rog is a copy writer for a Columbus 0., advertising agency doing radio and newspaper work. He's also a part time salesman with Real Silk Hosiery and claims he has one of the best door-to-door techniques in the state.

Pat Brewster is teaching English and mathematics at Deerfield Academy and assisting in coaching football, skiing and lacrosse. Over the summer he'll be co-director of Birch Rock Camp, East Waterford, Me. (plug gratis).

John Henry is working for the Insular Department as English supervisor for the Cabo Roio District in Puerto Rico. Over Christmas vacation he was "island hopping" from Miami to Havana and Port au Prince, Haiti.

Ret. Jay Buck wrote his old roomies, "Hoops" Jim Myers and "Sout' Or'nge" DickEchickson downstairs, a lovely tome on the luxurious life of a newly-inducted neophyte in the wondrous organization known as the U. S. Army. Jay and Red Rowe share the bliss offered at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.

GRAPEVINE REPORTS

Our nomination for first '50 in the Wah Hoo Wah column: Bob Smith is in the laundry division at Fort Devens, got an award of a three-day pass for being "Soldier of the Week" in January. How to go, Bobby.

Dave Hepworth reportedly has been galavanting about the states while waiting for his call from Uncle and saw John Rogers in Denver. Tony Poltrack told us John Trickey is in the infantry at Fort Dix.

Monthly "Words from Wharton," PaulRouillard reporting:

"Stew Young evidently got fed up with the climate here for he is currently traveling through Georgia and adjacent territory... rumor has it he is collecting material for a story about traveling salesmen.

"This morning I went to the dental clinic to get the 'ivories' polished and saw two bleary, red eyes staring at me. Lo and behold, it was Al Harquail who owned them ... he just finished the worst two weeks of exams he ever had!!

"Dave Reier sitting on the bench (at the Penn game) pleading with Doggie to put him in, but alas, he didn't have sneakers on."

Charlie Carpenter has moved to NYC to be near his job with J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency.... Cal Minor is training with The Texas Company.... Bob Cone is selling for the Joy Manufacturing Company in Claremont, N. H. With the duckboard season on us, we would be willing to buy a little joy, preferably liquid, but any shape, manner or form is in order.... Dick Kerwin is also a salesman; he's with Newsom and Kerwin, a food brokerage company in Chicago.... Whit Williams buzzes home to Bronxville from Naugautuck, Conn., in a brand new Chevvy that's equipped with the best tires in the world if you ask him: he's training with U. S. Rubber Co., and likes it very well.... Larry Huntley is a first year student at the Andover Newton ProTheological School in Newton Center, Mass. He is also working in the Alumni Office and serving as woodshop director at the West Newton Community Center. Upon graduating he expects to serve as a youth worker in the Philippine Islands.

Closing up shop for another month, we'd better honor the Tuck U Terrors' bucketball crew, "Hoops," Harry Van and Bill Frenzel already mentioned, plus Herb Ray and JackVan Zoeren as starters, who have been womping the freshmen-sophomore opposition consistently and dividing the high scoring pretty equally. Also the pucksters led by TommyWarner and convert-from-'49 Hugh Brower (brother of John Brower) who are still unscathed in hockey competition. As soon as the chess team is picked from the many potential varsity men, we'll let you know about them. Till April happy Saint Paddy's Day.
