As you read this, let's hope that you are about to leave for Hanover - or have just returned from Hanover - as a happy participant in the Class's annual fall mini-reunion on October 13-15. For those of you who couldn't make this ever-better occasion, a full report will follow in a later issue or in The Sweet Refrain.

And speaking of the class newsletter, your secretary met Editor Eddie O'Brien between planes at LaGuardia airport, he just back from - as far as I got it - just about everywhere in the world as part of his industrial documentary film work. And as to travel in general, Dorothy and I, with daughter Alison, are just back from a beautiful (more than that - it was beauty-filled) trip to Italy. Wore my 35th reunion T-shirt in Florence but got no reaction; did better in Venice when I donned a gondolier's black-and-white-striped shirt.

And as for a new and impressive start for the autumn, there is Joe Goldstein, just named to a Sterling Professorship, "among the most distinguished chairs" at Yale. Joe has been a Yale faculty member since 1956, and is a specialist in the relation of criminal law to individual rights and in the area of law and psychiatry. Among recently co-authored books are Beyond the BestInterests of the Child and The My LaiMassacre and its Cover-Up. Joe earned his Ph.D. at London School of Economics in 1950 and his law degree from Yale in 1952. He formerly was assistant professor at Stanford Law School and visiting professor in law at Harvard.

Dept. of Photo Confusion: In the June issue we talked of Bill Sweeney and described how he looked in a photo (which we didn't print) and Jim Wells (whose photo was inserted in Hanover unbeknowst to us). So Jim writes to us: "I am sure that Bill Sweeney is not complimented by your comments about my picture, since you ascribe his qualities to my features. However, Bill should recognize anyway that I was always better looking, even in the days of our youth." No comment from Bill as yet.

Still dressed in his surgical gown, DocFielding rushes to report he "had the pleasure of delivering two '43 grandchildren - at almost the same time. Brad Copeland's daughter, Priscilla Lyons, gave birth to a beautiful set of twins - one boy and one girl - on May 16. Everyone (including the obstetrician) did well."

Kelly Coffin, who is now in Miami in charge of Aetna's life brokerage agency, writes that son Tris '75 just earned his master's degree from Emory University. Kelly returned to Atlanta for the wedding of Jeff King, younger son of Hud and Lois. Hud and Jeff are "doing just fine" in their automotive parts business. As to other Atlantans, Pat and Don Crance were presented with a trip to Bermuda on the occasion of their 35th wedding anniversary by "those special kids of ours."

Nobody Tells Me Anything: Harry Gustafson ran for selectman of New Marlborough, Mass. He's been a member of the New Marlborough Planning Board and is the owner of Gustafson's Bakery in Great Barrington and the general manager of Sheffield Foods. Did he win? Sorry, we don't know. Maybe Harry will enlighten us.

Dartmouth Service Leaders: Bob Wight is serving as 1978 chairman of the 'Seacoast (N.H.) United Way Campaign, working with more than 200 volunteers. Bob is presonnel manager of Booth Fisheries and lives in Kingston with his wife Nancy and their four children. Alan Mcßean, secretary and treasurer of the Southern New England Telephone Company, heads the commerce and finance group of New Haven's United Way Campaign.

You have all heard and relished the news of the highly successful 1978 Alumni Fund campaign, which exceeded the $5 million mark. In our class, we reached 129 per cent of our dollar objective, topped only by one other class in our Green Derby group. For a great job, congratulations to Head Agent Bob Field, Regional Head Agents George Graham, DickLansburgh, Tom Keeler, Charlie Cusack and Dr. Hugh Lena, and everyone else who assisted and participated.

How was your summer? Let's hear from you
