Living out here so far from Hanover, we alumni flock together like old-time ranchers when a visitor from the East comes through the territory with news of the College. This particular flocking was to the Chapman Park Hotel, the third Tuesday evening in February, and what we flocked to was (B) dinner, and (A) guest speaker George Colton '35, secretary of the Dartmouth Development Council.

George ably covered the important Dartmouth developments, such as the participation of the College in forthcoming military training activities, and so forth, and then went on to those vitally unimportant topics which we always want from our Hanover emissaries, but don't always get—that is, the pleasantly nostalgic trivia of the town and how it feels to be there. Such as, this time, George's story of the "Big chet" campaign in the freshman elections. This campaign was unusual in that, despite an avalanche of speeches by his admirers and backers, the candidate himself never appeared in person. This worked out to his advantage, since it was explained that he was "out doing some good for the class," and it was only on the very eve of election that sinister reactionary forces exposed Big Chet as the Janitor of North Fayer.

George's talk was followed by the first Coast showing of the new film My First Week atDartmouth. This, viewers agreed, is a mustsee to top every alumni list; it's something absolutely new in college films: professional, entertaining, and the strongest recruiting tool to which any high-school luminary could possibly be exposed. Every alumni association ought to own a print and make sure that it gets shown at least once a year at every high and prep school in its area.

At this showing, Bill Adams '34 ran both the projector and the dinner meeting, assisted by song-leading Bob Williams '26 and moneymen Ed Ramsay '35 and Dave Boyle '40. From Keene, N.H., Cramp Carrick '35 was a welcome visitor, and among the fifty-odd turnouters we were particularly glad to see first-time-outers George Leach '11, Heine Swarth-out '30, Elmer Crehan '41, Bill Dignan '41, Quill Brazel '47, and Don Funk and KenSchaefer of '48.

The new Southern California Alumni Directory is now out. It covers the entire Dartmouth population—by name, address, class, and ocupation—all the way from Santa Bar- bara south to Capistrano and east to San Bernardino. It was financed practically in full by alumni advertisers, and certainly looks like the best alumni association directory yet produced, thanks to the untiring and unending work of President Adams and his working committee of George Purvis '49, Chuck Robinson '31, Dave Boyle '40, Peter Koelsch '42 and Secretary Leon Rothschild '24. If you didn't get a copy, or if your listing should be changed in the next edition, notify Leon at BRadshaw 2-6595. And while you're on the phone, place your reservation for the mid-April dinner in Pasadena to honor our own Dr. Walter Adams '98. Details in the mail. See you there.
