As nice a group of young men as you'd ever hope to see turned up at the Chapman Park Hotel late in August for the annual undergraduate luncheon. The 20 young men, from sophisticated seniors to tremulous subfreshmen, scattered among the officers and freshman interviewers, had a chance to cement acquaintanceships started at the Ivy League dance and generally jell into a "we" feeling. President Bob Williams '26 introduced each of the lads, and Eck Hiestand '10 shot in a superb impromptu chunk of very direct and practical advice. The youngsters continued their getting acquainted after the alumni left to get back to work, and at last reports the boys seem to have cohered into a tight unit.

About in the middle of September we got the bad news that ex-President Dick Hood 'go was being transferrred from his longtime post out here to the Washington headquarters of the F.8.1. And so we had a luncheon for him at Lindy's, with his old friends gathered around the long table under the blue umbrellas on the Wilshire patio. The day was appropriately muggy and smoggy, serving a dual purpose of dulling his sorrow at leaving our regional sun, and initiating him into Washington's regular climate. Leon Rothschild did the arranging, Bob Williams not only presided but delivered a very clever string of verse (probably written by wife Cappy) as he presented Dick with an engraved traveling clock. Dick took the time in his goodby speech to assure us that he would destroy all the secret F.8.1, dossiers on members of the local alumni group.

Nat Leverone 'O6 stopped in Los Angeles on October a. This was a joint dinner meeting of Phi Gam brothers and Dartmouth alumni, but the evening went along nicely without a single call for the police. Mr. Leverone, one of the leading industrialists of the nation, held forth on his view of the national economic picture, with personal sidelights on political figures currently in the news.

Next event, Dartmouth Night, October 19 will be a piece of past history by the time this issue of the MAGAZINE appears. I hope I saw you there.
