The spring football season came to a rousing finish with a precedent-making scrimmage against an alumni aggregation, composed largely of graduating seniors. The traditional intra-squad Donnybrook the Friday afternoon of Green Key was cancelled because of the rain. In the alumni encounter, the varsity won by the score of 12-6, although the outstanding man on the field was a member of the alumni team, a doddering gaffer named Joe Sullivan. At the ripe old age of 22, Joe has been out of College for two years and has been coaching the backs at Georgetown, whence he came this spring to help his alma mater with her own problems. The alumni team had such backfield luminaries as John Clayton, Bill Roberts, Bob McCraney, and Ed Isbey, and in the line such erstwhile stalwarts as Paul Staley, Mo Monahan, Ted Eberle, Pete Bogardus, and Craig Murphy. The contest was a spirited affair and, as the saying goes, feelings ran high before it was over. Both of the varsity touchdowns came as a result of interceptions. The first came when Dick Brown grabbed one of Bob McCraney's tosses and scampered across unmolested. The other varsity TD came when Jim Berry, a freshman tackle, stole a pass out of the hands of McCraney and lumbered over for the score. The lone tally for the Old Timers was made by Billy Roberts, who thereby scored his final touchdown in a green jersey. As noted, however, Joe Sullivan was the leading operative on either side. They could use him around here for the next couple of years.
