In getting out the Class Directory, I find that I unwittingly retired several very active classmates. I intended to retire Frank Drake only as President of Gulf Oil, since as Chairman of the Board he is still super-active. However, I entirely retired Tad Merrill, who is still very busy as a lawyer in Aurora, III. Tad left us after two years in Hanover, so that he has been away longer than most of us, but hopes to be with us in June.
I am happy that I did not retire HaroldPlumber who says his concern has more on its books than it has had for the past 20 years; while his usual business is the construction of industrial plants, he even has a church underway.
It was very heartening to your secretary to hear from so many of his old classmates this past winter. I had letters from Bunker,Riley, Little, both Parkers, French, Farzvell,Walker, Elderkin, Anguera, Brackett, Harris,Ruggles and many others. All seem to want to come, and most plan to come, to our Fiftieth.
Frank French writes that he has recovered from recent surgery and is going strong. While he has retired as purchasing agent for the mills, he is still working and still a bachelor.
The race is on again between our two peripatetics of 1902, whom I mentioned last month. I had a letter from Roy Hatch, saying he was leaving for New Zealand on February 7, and a note from Percy Dorr telling me that Frank Drake was on his way to London, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Athens.
