In political news, Howie Samuel has been elected chairman of the Democratic City Committee of White Plains, N. Y. Howie is assistant to the President of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America and is also executive director of the Sidney Hillman Foundation. A New York paper recently carried a marvelous picture and article of Howie and Ruth and their three sons. Both have been extremely active in civic affairs in the White Plains area and Howie's political activities have been voluntary, in addition to his business responsibilities. To quote part of the article - "During the past eight years Samuel has been over the whole city of White Plains canvassing and feels he has 'as good a knowledge of the Democratic party as anyone in the city.'" Undoubtedly, Howie worked hard and his election did not come without much hard work and apprenticeship in local politics.
