Wow! Something sure blew those summer pages off our calendar! Hope you all had your proper share of beaches, mountains, lawnmowing, housepainting and kids home from school.

How about that Alumni Fund showing this year? You guys really shelled for Pete Filzherbert and Company and ol' 1936 has its head high again. Bouquets to each and every one for setting a new Class record. We nailed the old jinx, quota, and beat our best on participants. Nice going!

Score three down and one to go for Cupid since our last report! On May 16 Hugh Chase altared up with Lois Christine Flurry at Milton, Mass. Lois is a southern belle from Slidell, La., and a graduate of Newcomb College in New Orleans. She taught psychology at the University of Vermont and is now teaching and studying at McGill University in Montreal. Hugh is studying at Columbia and plans to resume his teaching of English.

...Des Stewart and Mrs. Margaret McLucas Wilson picked June 20 for the date and Newton, Mass., for the place. Betty and Des took a Virginia honeymoon and are now back in Boston where Des flourishes in the field of public relations.... Semi Soule crossed the border for his bride, the former Mrs. Lillian Shannon of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The Soules "dood it" August 22 and Lake Placid was the setting. Lillian is a graduate of St. Mary's Academy and College in Winnipeg and Semi is on the faculty of the Northwood School.

The bells will chime later for Chuck Delbridge whose engagement to Miss Maxine Appel of Orchard Lake, Mich., became a matter of public record on August 15. Maxine is a graduate of Kingswood School, Cranbrook, and Finch Junior College. She attended Vassar and is a member of the Junior League. Happy days, Chuck, boy!

Back in June a bunch of the Boston gang took in a terrific picnic at the Ed Higbee establishment in Hingham. Ed and Helen have a beautiful old colonial home in wooded surroundings in the historic South Shore town. Ample space there was, after mowing with tractor, to play Softball as nobody ever saw it (plenty of reason) before. Assorted wives and husbands made up each club and as we recall the score it was some respectable figure like 41 to 39 with three balls in the tall blueberry bushes. Badminton, beer and buffoonery filled out the day 'til all settled down to some serious dining on lobsters and ham. Those lucky enough to participate included the Muellos, Olsons, Schorers (ringers from Hartford), Youngs, Wentworths, JohnSullivans, Fitzherberts (down from Auburn, Me.), Jean Parker (Tommy was on a business trip) and the Mortons.

Thanks to Johnny Sawyer for a nice note in July... John proudly classed as his big news one Nancy Proctor Sawyer, born December 12, 1952, and said she makes a "real live doll" for her 9 and 10 year old sisters. John continues to live in East Orange and, bless him, is in the business of selling space and advertising promotions for the firm of Harvey and Howe, Inc. John thoughtfully enclosed a clipping from the Newark News announcing Bill Hoffmann's recent election to the presidency of the East Orange Board of Education. Bill is a dutiful citizen and, in addition to being assistant treasurer of Fidelity Union Trust Company, is president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Northern New Jersey and of the Newark Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Paul Hessler, still putting up billboards all over Delaware and adjacent states, admits to a few grey hairs and a 30-pound weight advantage over his former self. In a business way Paul has been dabbling in foreign automobiles and boats, extra curricula like. This has led to a certain attachment for a 44-foot motor craft, all of which seems quite plausible.

We summered this year on Lake Winnipe-saukee and were happily surprised when we discovered Gerry and Art Greene had a cottage within a quarter of a mile. Arthur 12 and Irwin 7 complete the Greene family which has returned home to Manchester, N. H., where Art keeps busy with his practice of law.... Got to see a bit of the Brint Schorers whose cottage is located in Center Harbor. Brint boated in on two occasions with other classmates. Bob Keller was one and HowieRogers the other. Bob was vacationing from his summer place at York Beach; among other things, we learned from Bob that he and his boys have built a 22-foot catamaran with sails and two Mercury motors for Atlantic sailing. Howie monitors several successful enterprises in New Britain, Conn., and admits he even steals six or eight north country weekends in the winter for skiing. Brint mentioned he had seen Seth Thomas fairly recently. Seth lives in Thomaston, Conn., and works for the Schoville Mfg. Cos. He still plays the drums, trumpet and saxophone and has his own musical group in Thomaston which has the stamina and wind to last through the longest evening. Understand, too, that Seth built a boat last winter which doubtless meant a lot of good sailing this summer.

Dropped in on Connie Wickham in Philadelphia in June. The OPS work that Connie did for John Wannamaker lead to their establishment of a legal department which he now heads. With the passing of the 6-day week in retail merchandising Connie says he's getting re-acquainted with the family and getting some of the necessary chores done around the house.... Quite by accident we bumped into Len Mead in June at the Washington Airport and we flew to Boston on the same plane. Len seems to be dividing his time with Tufts College and the government. He teaches a couple of advanced classes and does research in psychology for the college and he can't tell what he does for the government — it being super secret. Anyhow, he's a complete stranger to Jean and the youngsters. He had just returned from Paris, California and Havana and was about to go to Bermuda in a couple of weeks.

Frank Weston and Elsie, his bride of a few months, flew to California for a three-week holiday with his family, including brother Paul ('33) and sister-in-law Jo Stafford, both of musical fame. Due entirely to his horsemanship, we understand many Californians refer affectionately to Frank as "Tex"... that may also include Helen and Ralph Cockroft, with whom Frank, Tex that is, reports all is well.... Bob Fernald bached it awhile during the summer when Tanna took the girls, Kathy 6 and Carol 3, to Arkansas to visit their maternal grandparents. When the family got together later in the summer they took a vacation through Maine and New Hampshire and dropped in on us for a very pleasant few hours. Under pressure Bob admitted to a recent election to one of the ten national directorships of the American Marketing Association.

Col. Johnny Bouker, U. S. Marine Corps, took over command of the NROTC at Cornell as professor of Naval Science about June 20. He is the first Marine officer to head the Cornell unit. John has been assistant to the plans and training officer of the 3rd Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, Calif., where he helped training maneuvers for cold weather operations in the Sierra Nevadas, desert training in the High Joshua Desert, and a largescale amphibious landing.

That's it for now Bust out those ball points and let's have a line or two on what's doin' at your house.
