Say ... wha hop-pen? We've got mail for you! Bless them fellers what found their pens! Chuck Aaron says, on a crisp white sheet from the Pearce Development Company (designers and builders of special machinery) in Cleveland: "We now have a prospect for some very future Dartmouth freshman class. He dates back to July 2, gets along nicely with his two sisters and answers around mealtime to the name, Jon." Chuck continues, "The past several months have been busy ones. We moved into an old house which I personally have been remodeling in all my spare time. I have had very little, because from the first of the year until just recently I headed up an 800-man organization to solicit donations from approximately 8,000 people in one division of the 1954 Jewish Welfare Campaign in Cleveland. That work made my stretch as assistant class agent a snap in comparison. Only '36ers seen recently has been Jim Gidney, now with Clevite Corp., and still carrying his usual load of interesting extra curricular activities. Cleveland Plain Dealer columnist Ray Dorsey has his picture and copy in the paper every day, but never see him in person." Chuck closes with the good 01' "see you in June," and then postscripts a request that the reunion program include amusements for kids. Good idea, C. A! Read on, we've got a man for the job!
Know the space is tight this month but hope our editor can run the photo sent us by Herb Beskind, whose transmittal explains:
"Kay and Bob Howland, accompanied by their son and daughter, were returning from a visit to Ensrland and Scotland. Dorothy and I had flown to England, Denmark, Germany and France and had managed to soend a few days at the Salzburg Festival in Austria. It is fair to say that at one time or another during the crossing, we were all grateful for Daamamine, Marazine, Bonamine, etc. It's mutually agreed we'll be in Hanover in June." You, Bob and Chuck won't be there alone, Herb! We'll all be there, by toffit!
Back in October we pulled a meeting of the executive committee ... a necessary move in view of matters due to come before the Class in the coming year. 'Twas the mind of the noble assembly that one Robert Ingersoll, a stethoscope-carryin' member in good standin', should serve as reunion chairman. A natural, eh what? Better still, the good doctor has agreed! In fact, he says he'll set, at a greatly reduced fee, all simple fractures and dislocations will be reset at no cost whatsoever!
Down from Hanover for the meeting was another very busy medic, Bill McLaughlin. With Bill was his most attractive bride of two months, Jeanne. We made a routine check of Bill's continuing interest in music and found he now owns not one, but two, bull fiddles...
that he plays regularly with a number of campus outfits, chiefly with a group known as the Sultans, who go in for the real gone stuff. Very soberly Bill confided that he never touches a medical journal until he has absorbed the current issue of Down Beat! Others who burned the lamp that night included Fin Wentivorth, Harry Coronis, the already mentioned Mr. Ingersoll, Al Gibney, and Pete Fitzherbert. Wives were cut adrift after the eats and the menfolk were thus permitted to remove jackets and perhaps recall a recent yarn, where essential for emphasizing a point. In the midst of things Frank Weston came in clearly by phone from Jersey, doing a little voting on important matters.
Thanks to Dan Schwartz and the Statler chain, where he stole the stationery, for a welcome note announcing his appointment as assistant public education director in the Department of Public Education of the American Cancer Society. Dan has been for several years national representative, a most interesting job, which, however, kept him travelling more than was entirely palatable to him, Jo and the kids. To quote Dan, in part:
"Saw Stu Barden in a Cancer meeting in Battle Creek. He's an outstanding radiologist. Dr. Eugene Prendegass of Phila., one of the country's leading radiologists, told me last week in New York that he'd tried to get Stu to come to Philly with him, but Stu likes it too much in Battle Creek. Line Caffall came up to me on a Chicago-New York flight. First time I'd seen him since '36. He floats municipal bonds. Saw Ray Reitman, now a big entrepreneur with a finger in many pies, instead of just being a liquor magnate!"
Good to hear of these guys, Dan, and congratulations on your new and important duty. How about a postcard, just to say you'll be in Hanover in June?
