Bequest Chairman, JAMES R. CHANDLER

"Old Perk" is a misnomer. He's growing younger each year. How come? sez you. Well, look at the record. Major operation last May; another in July; married in September. When last heard from he was said to be feeling a bit perky. (Awful. Apologies and assurances it will never happen again.) If any of you chaps can top Old Perk's record, let me hear from you by return mail. Incidentally, you don't have to try to hang up a record. The Class is down now to family size and likely to get news of all sorts, big or small. The more cooperation we can work up gathering class notes the more you will enjoy your ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Listen to what Fred Lord says about it: "I fear we shall go on as usual and any news you will get will have to be wormed out of us, stolen, divined, or otherwise ascertained." Maybe it isn't quite that rugged, but if you all (as we say down south) want news of each other, don't be bashful or lazy or both. What are your winter plans, for example?

In forwarding his check for class dues, BobOsborne, as have many others, added his word in memory of Jack Spring. In the persons of Jack and Ted Leggett, '98 had two top class agents, who did their full share and then some in making the Dartmouth Alumni Fund the leading fund of its kind among American colleges, and this leadership extends over a considerable period of years. Bob flew to Phoenix, Ariz., on October 27 and will spend the winter there instead of in Florida. He is well started in his eighties, but you wouldn't have guessed it from his appearance at our 55th last June.

Jack Eckstorm was one of two honored guests at the Agonis Club of Columbus, Ohio, in September. The occasion was the "Flowers for the Living" banquet at the Seneca Hotel. Don't forget that John, as head physician at the Ohio Penitentiary, can put to most helpful use any old lenses and glass frames that you may be discarding.

Fred and Ida Bennis closed their house in Sullivan Harbor, Maine, in late October. They expect to again be at the Lakeland Terrace Hotel, Lakeland, Fla., for the winter. Ev Snow is casting about in search of a winter diversion to fit in when the end of gardening activities leaves him jobless in the fall. He and Ruth are in good health but couldn't quite make the reunion last June as they are now inclined to "duck the things that invite over-fatigue." Kendall opines that at our age it is difficult and almost impossible to create enough breeze to make any news. Archie, please put on your reading glasses and carefully peruse the opening paragraph of these notes.

John Gilman was unable to attend the reunion because of illness in his family. We are glad to be able to report improvement. Fred and Jeanne Lord invited our two freshman grandsons to their Hanover home so as to "get acquainted with them and discover what, if any, resemblance they bore to their illustrious grandparents." Except for the fact that Joe Bartlett might see these notes, I would confide to you that they figured that the two boys showed "good promise of equalling or surpassing their grandfathers." Sam Bartlett is fourth in a direct Dartmouth line which began with Joe's father. Jack's grandson is, I think, the third of the Spring family to enter Dartmouth. The Lords left on October 27 for their winter home in Dunedin, Fla.
