Hi gang. It's wonderful to hear that TomPorter and Wes Blake were able to get back to the Hanover plain recently. Wes was there in January and Tom in February, and while we can see why Wes was there, there being a gal in Montreal, we don't know how Tom ventured so far away from Columbus, O.

Speaking of Wes, we mentioned a while back that we had a fine letter from him. Wes writes that right after graduation he attended the McGill summer school in geography in a small town in Quebec, working primarily on the Arctic. His course will lead to a Master's degree some time this spring. It hasn't been all done in Montreal, as last summer Wes journeyed to Baffin Island for further research. They departed way last May and returned in August and were studying a small ice cap and the various glaciers on the southeastern part of the island. It was the RCAF who flew the boys in. It must truly have been a marvelous experience. This isn't the whole story, because after leaving Baffin, Wes spent a month and a half with a Laborador family near the Goose Bay air base, and Wes reports in his usual modest manner that it was difficult to tell the beauties from the beasts with all those sealskins on. Dave Angel! lives in the same barracks with Wes, as mentioned before, at the Med School. Wes reports that BruceBryant is doing reconnaissance geology in the Cascade Mountains of Washington as part of his THD field work at the University of Washington, while Ed Post is at Washington State, also in geology, only this time the min- ing phase. Al Blomquist is finishing up his second year at North Carolina University in their School of City Planning. We reported Hank Person's engagement recently, but did we tell you that he is at the Clapp Oceanographical Laboratory in Duxbury, Mass.? Wes continues to report that Bob Tofohrde, DaveWhite, Bill Michner and John Marshall are all at Tufts Medical School.

Before I forget, it was wonderful hearing from Bob McCabe the other day when he called to get Dick Pugh's address. Bob has been with the Wall Street Journal in Chicago recently; however, has now resigned and will travel Europe for several months. It is rumored, however, that Bob will have a very difficult time finding Dick Pugh with the fog at ground level in England, and Dick probably down lower yet in one of the step-down elbow-bending societies. Best of luck, Bob, in your search for a '51er.

We are ashamed that we did not mention that John Ferguson last fall was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Armored Corps. It certainly is wonderful to hear of so many of those gallant men of the green advancing in all walks of life.

Speaking of loyal class workers, we were distressed to hear from Dave Hilton that he had been in an automobile accident while journeying from his Dayton, 0., estate with the Air Force to Connecticut on an undisclosed mission. Apparently Hilty is feeling fine and probably by now out of the Wright-Patterson Base Hospital where he had about 20 stitches taken in his head. Incidentally, Dick reported that Dick Halloran is now in the Paratroops and was in Washington for a couple of weeks last fall.

One of our Eastern spies just reported that Ens. Reed Badgeley took an interesting part in the fire that took nine lives on the aircraft carrier Boxer in Korean waters on August 9. We don't have time for all of the details now, but Reed certainly was in on a hair-raising experience.

Someone also told us that Joe Spound has been in several plays of late out the eastern way.

Hartford, Conn.'s own Lt. Johnnie Ives has recently been assigned to the Medical Replacement Training Center at Camp Pickett, Va. You will recall that Johnnie has been with the Hartford National Bank and Trust Company and was recently married to his wife Ann, also of Hartford. That Billy Leshure - we just can't keep him out of the news. We heard that his home town church of Longmeadow, Mass., was very happy to receive his Christmas greetings. You will recall Billy is now quite a football player in the German league. Jack Skewes has recently been commissioned a second lieutenant at Fort Bliss, Tex., and is probably now well situated in Japan where his orders took him. From the word we got, Jack is an anti-aircraft officer. And did you know that John Gannon is an ensign in the Supply Corps? Well, John is, although we do not know where. Also, out eastern way, we hear that Harold Stahmer, who last year completed a year's study in Germany, is now a student for the ministry in the Methodist Church.

Let's jump into some engagements. Without doubt, this seems to be the period of high hopes and great expectations for we have a good many engagements to proclaim and only one solitary marriage.

As long as there is only one happily married couple to announce, let's do it now and all say "Congratulations" to Mary Virginia Sturken and Doug Bachem. Doug took the southern belle of Charleston, S. C., for his bride and, as you probably know, John is an ensign in the Navy.

Proud and mighty at the top of this month's happily engageds, is none other than smiling Russ Gardner of Chicago fame and fortune and his happy bride-to-be, Patricia Corrine Purviance. Pat is a Duke graduate and working for the State Department in Washington, where the wedding will take place in June. Oh, boy, what a day!

Sliding across the country to sunny California, we hear of Bob Bowler's engagement announcement to Virginia Robinson, and by the time we hit the print it will be Mr. and Mrs. Bowler for the happy couple. Virginia attended the University of California at Berkeley, and both must be enjoying the sunny lands. Half-brother Bill Stout's engagement was recently announced to Ellen Simonds. Ellen is a Bradford miss, and now the details of Bill's many trips south are well explained. Bill is in Pittsburgh with the Aluminum Company of America.

Did we tell you that Dave Angell and Joan Leubuscher will be married in August? Well, they will, because Joan will be graduating in June from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. Dave certainly has had a long way to commute between Norton and Montreal, but Hanover always is a wonderful stopover point. Glancing down the list, we find happy Mary Apgar giving consent to Ensign RonnieThorburn. Ronnie is aboard the U.S.S. Bausell located on the west coast, while Mary's claim to fame lies in Colby Junior College, University of Columbia and Conservatoire de Lausanne in Switzerland, where she has studied.

Eastern interpreters reported Ed Tolley in his Army uniform recently in the Dartmouth club. Ed is stationed at the Army Base in Millington, N. J. Also wearing Army uniform, this time carrying second lieutenant bars, is Dick Hulbert, with the Anti-Aircraft and Guided Missiles Artillery at Fort Bliss, Tex.

Speaking of tennis players, Jeff Hart is at Newport training for an ensignship in Naval Intelligence, while Al LeClair, it is rumored, had a wild night in New York recently. We are very proud to hear that Aaron Rausen is editor of the New York State Medical College student publication and is also holding down a fellowship from the National Association for Infantile Paralysis.

Speaking of the world's largest city, we hear that Sel Atherton has packed up, lock, stock and barrel from the small town in New England and moved to the thriving metropolis to set his mark upon civilization - take it away. Flash - it's a girl for the Athertons - Alynn, born March 5.

It seems a little early in the game to be devoting much time to the offspring of '51s. However, a nagging wife who has done a marvelous job in typing our monthly garble, adds some impetus to these words. Congratulations are in store for Mr. and Mrs. Egon Kramer who are the proud parents of a baby girl born in Japan on December 8.

As far as we know, all of the news is in on the Class Boy, and we do hereby proclaim Mr.and Mrs. Ira Chorebanian's boy, born on April 12, 1952, as the Class of 1951's Class Boy. You will recall that Ace Mueller's boy was born on April 14, and all we can say is that it was a very close race. In keeping with the tradition, we will soon send to little Ira an appropriate memento of the occasion, from all the class.

The wife prompts me to say that our boy, Chip, is now 14 months old, and closely resembles a very happy caged gorilla. Please send us some snapshots of you and the gang for the print.

You will note Class Agent Dave Hilton's name at the head of this column. We're a young class with our history before us. We're also a big class. We should be able, during the Fund drive coming up this month, to make him glad he took the job.

Until we meet again.
