We are awfully pleased these spring days to hear that Mr. and Mrs. August Muggenthaler and also Dave Hall made it back to the old stamping ground early this spring. When the gentle breezes rustle through the new-born blossoms and spread their fragrance far and wide, we all have the urge to wander, and what could be finer than to dive into Storrs Pond for the first time, or perhaps the forbidden reservoir. At any rate let's not tarry on lighter fancies but hustle to the news at hand.

We are all proud of Ensign Rog McAlister, who recently received his wings of gold and commission in Naval Aviation. Rog is probably now in Corpus Christi, Texas, for additional training before he joins the Commander of Air Forces in the Pacific Fleet. It appears to us that Stuttgart, Germany, must hold a magnetic force for our '51ers. You will recall that Billy Leshure, noted Stuttgart halfback, and Jim Danaher of some fame and little fortune on the Hanover golf ball diamonds, are both there. Now news arrives that Guido Rahr, formerly prominent in the Big Green rowing circles, has been forwarded by the U.S. Army to Stuttgart. Chip takes his role as a linguist and typographer.

In early January, Dave Lawrence became the father of a g½-pound son, to be known as Corty. Skiing not only runs in the family, but as we have it, Corty was born deep in an igloo a'top Pico Peak this sounds like some feat, nevertheless, that's how the word came to us.

News seems to be scattered hither and yon this month so let's just bat from place to place to see what we can see. We were tickled pink to hear of Russ Gardner's engagement announcement to Pat Purriance. Pat and Russ aren't going to waste a single moment and will jump into the blissful bonds on June 20 in Washington, D. C. Knowing Russ, anyone in the Washington vicinity will be more than welcome. Pat is with the Defense Department, so there is no doubt that she will be able to defend Russell as if he needs it.

Virg Minervini's parents are certainly proud of Virg these days as he has recently been commissioned a second lieutenant at the Infantry School, Ft. Benning, Ga. Virg is now attending a Medical Administration course at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, where, thank goodness, he has now joined his wife, Helen.

Gosh, it was wonderful to have a nice letter from John Southworth, who is in the front lines in Korea. It is certainly gratifying, indeed, to know that even when a man is under the strain and fatigue of battle, he is thinking of happier days gone by and his Hanover associates, as well as hoping for brighter days ahead. John, writing on March 18, just received the January issue of the Magazine, so you fellows working for the post office should certainly speed up that mail service. John is a gunner on an M-46 tank and at last writing was located just a few miles from Choson. He is organizing a Dartmouth Night of their own when Second Lieutenant Wendell Curtiss arrives, if he is stationed close by.

To jump back to the first of the year, we had a nice note from Dick Halloran who is now an OCS at Fort Benning, Ga., said he saw Jim BovaircL who was recently commissioned at Ft. Benning. At time of last writing, Dick hoped he could, some day soon, get into the Paratroops.

Woody Klein dropped us a nice note a while back, telling of his escapades in basic training at the Engineer Center at Fort Belvoir, Va. Says it's the same place Buck Scott studied at. Woody hit a job right down his alley in the Public Information Office, writing news and feature releases for Washington papers and wire services. He says it's mighty good to be back behind the typewriter again instead of the machine gun or M-1 ride. These experiences have run him into MikeMonroney with the Washington Post, BobPack and Don Gold, studying at Columbia, Bill Pardee who was at Ft. Belvoir, and HerbRobbins, who is in personnel work stationed at Ft. Jackson, S.C. Thanks for the good dope, Woody, and please excuse the momentary delay in cracking the print.

Well, old Bob Hopkins and Joan Dreher became Mr. and Mrs. on April 11, in Darien, Conn. Many happy returns of the day.

It was nice to hear the other day that LarryWhelan was married on June 10, '52, to Natalie Lastell, a Stanford alumna, and on July 10 of last year was commissioned oat of Quantico with the Marines. Larry, you will remember, was with us for a time in Hanover and then graduated from Boston College.

Our comrade, Scott Olin, of a year's earlier vintage, dropped us a nice note recently and included some swell pictures of George Bissell and bride, Marcia Cunningham it must have been quite an event. Word has it that Herb Knight, out Chicago way, is a very stealthy money counter with the Harris Trust, as well as raiser of a bushel or two of funds for the Red Cross drive there. Scott reports that Mort Briggs is a fellow officer in his destroyer division, to be exact, on the U.S.S.Robert A. Owens, and making fairly serious plans about becoming engaged "tsk, tsk." You will recall that Pete Henderson's boat, the U.S.S. Bache, is in the same destroyer division.

Speaking of the .services, we journey now to the Army where we find Air Force Lt. JimBalderston spending several days in Minneapolis viewing the Minneapolis-Honeywell Aeronautical Division operations. Jim is stationed at Harrisburg, Pa., and apparently there were no Air Force men near Minneapolis competent enough to draw up parts lists, so Air Force Jim took a train out and spent most of his time doing liaison work in the local pubs. Seriously, however, Jim looked fine and even after a year at Tuck, hasn't changed a great deal.

Did we tell you that Lt. Bill Rugg is the father of a 9-pound son named Stephen Rawlins, born to him and the Missus at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital on March 7? Bill is now on duty in the Korean waters as you might recall with the Navy and therefore, as far as we know, has not seen his proud wife Joyce or the baby since the happy day. Joyce and son are staying in Norwich, Vt, while Bill is off the shores of Korea near Wonsan in company with the "Mighty Mo," which company we hope is mighty protective.

The summer months are approaching, and for us it will be a movement into the siesta, so any of you who have not written and we don't know who that might be please drop us a card, telling of your activites and whereabouts. We enjoy so much hearing, and hope that we may have the opportunity of replying to more of your letters than has been possible heretofore. It's a great thrill knowing that all of the strong friendships and even the casual acquaintances we have made are being cultivated as time goes by. June 17, 1951, is not the end, only the beginning.

Have you sent your check to Dave Hilton or the Alumni Fund office yet? Don't forget, we want to be darn certain we wallop the pants off the rest of the competition, if there is any, in the Little Green Derby.

CHIP off the old block. His dad, Dave Leslie '51, is heading Chip, christened David Leslie II, in the direction of Hanover on his first birthday.
