Hurricane Carol paralyzed Rhode Island yesterday to the point that I hunt and peck this column through the haze of candlelight. Thus it will be shorter than usual, as I just have not had an adequate chance to prepare the abundance of news I have.
Let me say at the start of my "Second Term" that I'm pleased and honored to be your class representative, and that I'll do my best during these next five years to build our class into an even stronger and more-active unit. With your continued support, we'll make it easily. I did not solicitate the renewal of my duties, as affairs here in R. I., including a busy schedule as the Dartmouth enrollment chairman of the state will require greater quantities of my time, but since the nominating committee saw fit, I accept the responsibilities again and hope you'll tolerate me. A note of thanks to Lou Mulkern for his vote of confidence, as well as to the nominating committee of Harv Nolan, Bert Rodman, and Bruce Benner.
I heard just this morning from shiny-new Class Treasurer Bill While that already 124 men have kicked in with their class dues. I hope that by the time you read this the number will have tripled. Bear in mind that dues are the only way the class can function, now that the Graduating Tax is gone from our means. And by having a bank account, the class can afford to schedule efforts for class outings, etc. Also it will be the only way you can retain your subscription to this MAGAZINE and thus keep up to date on our affairs as well as the rest of Dartmouth, both alumni and undergraduate. So if you haven't already, how about doing your share?
My candle just blew out, and we had a three-minute intermission to grope down the hall for another one.
By this time, also, Carl Struever is working feverishly in his efforts to work up a fine Class Directory which will be yours, so that each of us will be up-to-date in address and business form on each other of us. I suspect your forms for filling out have reached you by now.
