Despite a poor pre-season rating, the Dartmouth cross-country team under Coach Ellie Noyes has been doing some impressive running. In four meets to date Dartmouth has defeated Massachusetts 21-40, Boston University 22-39, Brown 22-33, has placed second in a triangular meet with Yale and Columbia.
The Indians' top runners Captain Dick Hogarty and Doug Brew are about even in winning honors. Hogarty took second place against Massachusetts, third against B.U., and finished second against Brown and in the triangular meet with Yale and Columbia. Brew, who captained the freshman team last year, finished in fourth place against both Massachusetts and B.U., then took first place against Yale and Columbia at Van Cortland Park in New York, and also garnered first place in Dartmouth's most recent victory over Brown.
Pete Jebsen, a veteran, also has been running well and took third against Massachusetts and the number two spot in the Boston University meet. Jebsen pulled up with a leg injury and did not compete in the triangular meet or the Brown race.
Other Big Green runners who have been placing among the first ten in the races to date include Paul Merriken, Tom Riker, Jim Howe and Phil Langtry.
