An important social event for '19ers in and around the New York area is the annual party at Paul and Catherine Halloran's most attractive home, Oran Hall, at Yorktown, which the Hallorans have had for several years after the Dartmouth-Army game at West Point. (Now that there will be no more games with the Army for awhile, for the good of all concerned, we will have to think up some other reason for the continuance of this gathering.)

Checking in after the game were Coke and Babe McCreery of Washington, Dick and Spike Dudensing, Lou and Jean Stone, Clarence and Helene Buttenweiser, Lou and Harriet Munro, Will I and Constance Levy, Teto and Shirley Webster, Tom and Claire Bresnahan, Fran Little, Bill and Edna McMahon, San and Jane Treat with Sandy Jr. and Marion; and the Johnny Johnstons and the Bob Colwells representing 1918. The hospitality of the Hallorans can't be beat, as everyone who has been there will testify. Seen at the game were Paul Clements, doubtless en route to Sarasota, and Larry Milligan, the w.k. New York advertising executive.

The preceding Saturday in Hanover, when the Navy ran riot (also no more Navy games for the reason mentioned above) the following classmates whom we don't see often enough were present: among the "regulars," JohnnyMurphy, Ed Warnke (prominent in the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Long Island), Larry and Mrs. Eastman, one of Fred Daley's agents from Portland, Maine, and BunnyCollins with son, from Arlington, Mass., and Sarasota, Fla.

Tracy Kohl comes through with a nice note on the stationery of the Braemar Hotel, Nassau, Bahamas. Quoting:

"Sunday I finish a ten-day capsule vacation - e.g. miniature - down here and fly back 8.0.A.C. to New York and Chicago. A thoughtful secretary sent me the last Smoke Signal and I enjoyed the tales about the traveling '19ers. I wonder if Greif is still down here under the palm trees. I sure would like to bump into him in some market place. He also was one of the 1919 Wisconsin summer school grads. I am also reminded, as these travellers skirt Chicago on Hiways #60 or #30, that they are only a few minutes from Chicago's big West Side suburb - and Trace Kohl and the Oak Park Arms (advt.) and Edna and I would like to be surprised late some afternoon with a couple of overnight guests, 'shower in every room.' The other item that impulsed this note is about Woodstock, that party I would like, but again this year it is out. The American Hotel Association has their annual convention in October - last year in Montreal, this year in New York, November 3-5. I take some part in this convention, so can't make both."

Buffalo reporting via Chet Gale:

"Thanks to all my good pals in the Class of 1919 for the most unusual birthday greeting. This was the first time I have ever read the notice of my birth in a newspaper and I am most grateful to Dartmouth for making this possible. Last weekend, when rooms were very scarce in Cleveland, Lou and Jane Cody came through in their usual way by turning over their guest room to me and a friend of mine. We saw both games (See's note - wot happened to Cleveland!!!) and had a swell time, particularly with the Codys and their friends. Lou's back has completely healed, so he will be back on the ice again this winter as bouncy as ever. Wish Emily and I could join you and the gang at Woodstock but no can do this year."

Some of you will recall that Lou is one of Cleveland's leading amateur skaters, and had a bad fall last winter. Suggestion from one old-timer to another — take it easy Lou, this is 1954., remember?

A card from Marie Drane indicated that she and her mother are enjoying their cruise on the Caronia to the utmost, with stops in Rome, where she met John Fornacca; Rhodes, Alexandria and Athens, among numerous other places. Marie notes, "Please give my best to all my friends in Woodstock - I shall be thinking of you all over that weekend."

Dorothy Hapgood, in a note to Fred Daley, has some news of her family:

"Tom Jr. is graduating from our local Springfield, Pa., High School and is entering the School of Business Administration at Drexel Institute of Technology in September. Our other one, Jeanne, was graduated from Penn State University, a journalism major, and is now the editor of our local paper, the Springfield Press."

A prominent citizen of Worcester, Mass., Chet Caswell, was re-elected moderator and member of the administrative committee of the First Baptist Church, to whose activities Chet devotes a great deal of time. Ray Adams, our treasurer (have you sent in the class dues of five bucks) was one of the many that regretted his inability to get to Woodstock and Hanover this year. As Grand Master of Masons in Vermont, Ray was completely tied up with Masonic activities during October and says, "On the evening of October 15 will be in Alburgh, Vt., so couldn't get any further away and still be in Vermont."

From Budd Welsh, another of Fred Daley's able agents, and President of the Morris County Savings Bank (N. J.) comes:

"Thanks for the very unique birthday card (thanks again to Lew Garrison) which I have just received upon the occasion of another milestone. The older we get, the more rapidly the years seem to pass. I shall be unable to attend the get-together in Hanover and Woodstock this year as my younger daughter is to be married on October 16 and the father of the bride has certain duties to perform. This is the last of my family to appear at the altar, which also indicates that old age is approaching. I can also report five grandchildren."

It seems advisable to your Sec to send the report on the Woodstock-Hanover weekend in a Smoke Signal which may or may not reach you before this issue of the MAGAZINE it was a great party despite the threat of Hazel the Hurricane Gal. Also, Christmas Greetings to all of you and when you are making your resolutions for 1955, include in them jf 1, write your Secretary more often (some of you must have forgotten how to write) and plan to come back to Woodstock-Hanover next fall we are setting up another '19 weekend party for mid-October.
