First of all, a Very Merry Christmas and aMost Happy New Year to all you '19ers, andhow about making a New Year's resolutionthat you will write your old Sec. more oftenin 1957. Also, if your name does not appearon the long list of classmates who have contributed in 1956 to the welfare of the College, resolve that you will make sure it does nextyear.

I have received an amusing letter from Professor Don Finlayson:

Again you timed it right on the nose - and I enjoyed the personal touch and being reminded of all the class of 1919 very much. I have nothing world-shaking to report during the past twelve months. The arrival of my third grandson, David Whittier Finlayson, is a modest score - but, of the three, Dartmouth should get one at least even though my son went to Hamilton and my son-in-law to B.U. On the personal score I joined the President with my first session with angina last fall. Ira glad to report that all is under control and I'm behaving myself, keeping generally in second gear. To cheer me, my sister sent me Warmbrand's "Add Years to Your Heart." That comforting gent advocates giving up smoking, liquor, tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, salt, sugar, butter, cream, all oils and fats, meat (unless raw!!), spices, condiments, white flour, etc., etc. and nuts. NUTS say I. 0.K., so I'll watch the drinking and the diet, and take off weight - (I'm down nine pounds in three weeks already and have eleven to go), but I've got too much of the old Dartmouth spirit in me to take it lying down with a cup of skimmed milk in one hand and a raw carrot in the other. I'll see you at our fiftieth, George! P.S.: Aren't we about due for a new up-to-date Roster of the Members of the class of 1919? Some of them may have moved to within 10 miles of me and I not know it.

From 2751 N.E. 23rd Terrace, Pompano Beach, Florida, Larry McCutcheon checks in with news of Adele and Bri Greeley who visited while enroute to St. Petersburg via Miami. Because of earlier plans, they had only a short visit and could not be persuaded to stay. Although an inactive member of the class, Larry enjoys the newsletters and the birthday card. Bri also reports that he tried to get in touch with Norm Sterling and Alex Henderson but missed them.

A fine picture of Howie Cole appeared recently in the Boston Herald with the headline, "Cole to head $350,000 drive for Baptist Home" and quoting further: "Atty. Howard W. Cole, of Beverly, widely known Baptist layman, has been named to head a $350,000 campaign for the Baptist Home of Massachusetts in Chestnut Hill. The funds will be used to build two new wings and an infirmary so that the number of occupants can be increased from 59 to no. Cole, a deacon of the First Baptist Church in Beverly since 1924 and its moderator for the last four years, has also been active for many years in the Y.M.C.A., Red Cross, and Community Fund in Beverly. He is chairman of trustees of the Newton Theological Institution." Howie not only finds time from his law practice to do this, but also, as most of you know, has taken on the job of Bequest Chairman for 1919, and helps Fred Daley on the Alumni Fund.

A note from Phil Bird of Hingham, Mass., says: "With all plans, tickets and reservations made for the Woodstock weekend, I find myself bedded down in the South Shore hospital going through tests and x-rays to design a way of life to follow. I will have to become less active in business and simply let my salesmen take over. Have already started to make plans for a year from now. Know we are missing a swell time this weekend."

You all have heard from Ray Adams, our Class Treasurer, with an accounting of what happens to the class dues. Please send your check promptly so that you will continue to get the MAGAZINE and add the extra buck to help build up funds for the Memorial Book Program. Your Sec. trusts that the big Woodstock-Hanover weekend was adequately covered in the November Smoke Signal, and that everyone on hand was reported. Don't forget that October 11-13 is the date for 1957.
