The most important event in the McCarter household this summer was the birth of a daughter, Meredith Whitter, on June 1. William, age 9½, and Susan, age 8, have particularly enjoyed their little sister. For Alice and me it's like starting a family all over again, an experience we are looking forward to.

I had hoped to receive more news from classmates over the summer, but only a few items arrived in the mail. I received a note from Bob Cushing who lives in Canberra, Australia, where he is a reader in sociology at the Australian National University and specializes in criminology. Bob received his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1967 and taught at the University of Texas until 1971, when he moved to Australia with his wife Frances and two sons, Steven (13) and Kevin (9). Bob may be surprised to discover that he is no longer the only member of the class living in Australia. In mid-July, Maiand Nita Churchill moved from the American Embassy in the Phillippines to the Embassy in Canberra. Good luck to Mai at his new post. He can now be reached by mail at American Embassy, APO, San Francisco 96404.

I received a letter from Lou Perullo on stationary of his own unique design containing, among other curious items, a large bust of Lou with a medallion draped about his neck inscribed "ITALIAN POWER." Lou has kept up with his rock music which he started at Dartmouth with the "Renegades" and makes monthly sojourns from Fairfax, Va., to Nashville to play the drums. He won trophies and prize money in eight out of nine races last spring at one of the local National Hot Rod Associations speedways. His supercharged 1976 dayglo orange Pontiac Firebird 400 Transam took class E top honors and beat the leaders in all other classes at Maryland International Raceway last May. Somewhere between the rock and the racetrack Lou finds time to serve as vice president in charge of advertising, sales promotion and real estate, and new store development at Kay Jewelers and hopefully finds a little time for Joanie and his daughter Laura, age 6.

Bill Wachter has been appointed assistant general counsel for special litigation for the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, D.C. He will be responsible for defending the five-member Board and the general counsel in all litigation arising against that agency in the United States District Courts. For seven years prior to his appointment. Bill served as a supervisory attorney in the Appellate Court Branch of the Division of Litigation. Bill lives in Falls Church, Va., and is an avid outdoorsman and traveler. He particularly enjoys hiking, skiing, fishing, and all sports.

Congratulations to Phil Kron and a word of thanks to the many class agents who enabled the Class to finish second place in the Green Derby this year as compared to second to last in 1975. We exceeded our $40,000 goal by $1,768, ob- tained 22 more contributors than last year, and increased our average gift by 11 percent. It was truly a remarkable effort!!
