Then, we also have the move from "morgue to Main Street" by Bill McNulty. Bill has been rooming in a Syracuse, N. Y., funeral parlor. The housing shortage has been tough everywhere. But Bill's new house was finished during the summer. Helen and their four children have returned from California to live in it, and all goes well with the district manager of Graybar Electric. Bill's fourth child, Patricia Ann, now two years old, has not previously been reported in the news. She joins Mary Ann and twin brothers, William Jr. and John.

Jim Conkling and family have moved out to the West Coast—l4153 Greenleaf St., Sherman Oaks, Ca1.... Peg and Ray Reitman are in Europe for the month of October and part of November.... Dick Dorrance has been all over the country: at one time he was in Puerto Rico when Nina was lecturing at the University of Oklahoma.... Art Funk has left this country for the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria.

A big promotion in the teaching profession has come to our former boxing champion and student coach, Robert Guest Lewis of Rindge, N. H. Bob was formerly principal of Conant High in Jaffrey, N. H., and recently secretary of the Cathedral of the Pines. Beginning this fall, he has been appointed to the position of executive secretary and treasurer of the New Hampshire Education Association with his headquarters in Concord.

There were Dartmouth classes, shortly ahead of ours, when a high percentage of graduates went to work on Wall Street. Perhaps 1936 marked an end to that period. At least my records show few men in the stock brokerage business. Hearing from Dick Taber made me think of it. Dick is a member of the firm, Tripp & Taber, stock brokers in New Bedford, Mass. Dick lives at 120 Elm Street, South Dartmouth, Mass. I give you his home address in case any of you get nervous after the market has closed and want to place a stop order.

The big news in Worcester, Mass. these days is that Stan Walker has formed a law firm, called Walker and Swanstrom, 340 Main Street, where you can go for just about any special legal counsel that is required these days. Stan and Gladys, his lovely wife, live in a big colonial house in Northboro, Mass., which they call "Shorecottage." They have five children, Linda May 11, Katherine Noel 9, Stan Jr. 7, Daniel Austin 6, and Jeffrey George 2. Also living with the family is Stan's mother, widow of Fred A. Walker '99. In the summer, when the family isn't at their summer cottage on Lake Boon in Stow. Mass., Stan has 'them cruising and camping out. They have a boat they put on top of. their car, two tents, and other equipment; and off they go. Destination may be anywhere. For example, last summer they cruised from Hartford to Long Island Sound, and back, I assume, to pick up the car and head for another destination.

In Green Bay, Wis., Steve Styles has been elected president of the Morley-Murphy Company, a big hardware manufacturer.

Andy Schmidt is manager of the Personal Loan and Finance Dept. of the Hampden Savings Bank in Springfield, Mass. Recently he was the moderator of a conference of Retail Credit Grantors of New England and Eastern Canada. Andy's home address is 108 Hitchcock Street, Holyoke, Mass.

Elbert L. Camp has been made plant staff supervisor of the N. J. Bell Telephone Co. in Elizabeth, N. J. El's home is at 167 South Windsor Avenue, Brightwaters, Long Island.

A new law office and a new house is reported by Connie Wickham. His law office is now at 1835 Arch Street, Philadelphia and his home at 18 South Buck Lane, Haverford, Pa.

The assistant director of Saks Fifth Avenue is George Makepeace. George lives on Mill Road, New Canaan, Conn.

The class of '36 is a "fast moving" class. We certainly have the record to prove it, but at times it's too much. Stu MacMackin testifies to this latter point of view. He writes, "Continuing my Oakie-like existence that has been part of my life with General Electric, I am moving with the Company's Special Defense Projects Dept.... from Schenectady to Philadelphia. All of this hits the family with the impact of a picnic in the rain. Alice complains that the rugs look like quilts from being cut up. She gets new drapes out of it, but not even one mink. The kids take it with the same aplomb that they would take life with a migrant bean picker. This is the fifth move in 12 years and they would just as soon quit. One of the advantages of the new department has been the excuse for business calls to Jim Buyoucos and Joe Milliment. Both sounded buoyant over the phone and made me long for the life of a lawyer who could stay put."

Ted Olson, our star pitcher in 1936, has a son, Theodore Mack Olson, born on September 9. This is the Olsons' first baby after 19 years of marriage. They have two adopted children, Dave 10 and Peter 6. I talked with Ted on the telephone, and he reports ChetYoung is principal of the Quincy High School, and Joe Berman teacher and athletic advisor in Hull, Mass.

Ken Langler, state agent for the Phoenix of Hartford Insurance Companies in the Boston office, has been transferred to the home office and promoted to educational director. Ken's new home address is 12 Castlewood Drive, West Hartford, Conn. He joined Phoenix in 1937.

Cliff England's wife, Phyl, has been elected president of the Dartmouth Women's Club of Boston which, I believe, is the only club of its kind in the U.S.A., and a very large and active one.

Lawrence Marx Jr. has accepted the appointment of £und raising chairman for the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York for 1956. This is the largest local philanthropic drive in the world, setting a goal this year of more than $18,000,000 which is dispensed by 116 health and welfare agencies without regard to race or religion. Lawrence has hereby assumed another post held by his father who had long been a supporter of charitable causes and was chairman of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies at the time of his death in a boating accident in 1938. Lawrence Jr. is the father of two children and is a Boy Scout leader, sports car racer, skier, golfer, tennis champion (captain of our varsity team in 1936), noted yachts-man in the International class, and a director of both United Merchants and Manufacturers, Inc., Cohn.—Hall - Marx, and Robert Hall Clothes.

According to a note I have just received from Eddie Chamberlain, the only son of '36 in Dartmouth this year is David P. Hambleton, son of George and Barbara Hambleton of Nashua, N. H. David has entered as a freshman in the class of 1960. As most of you know, Eddie Chamberlain, who was formerly acting director, is now the Director of Admissions of the College.

Stuart MacMackin '36 is the new Counsel for General Electric's Defense Electronics Division, located in Syracuse, N. Y.

W. Brewster Towne '36 has joined the Treadway Inns Corp. as a Director and as head ofthe new Development and Plans Division.
