This month the column is of necessity rather short, due to the fact that the list of contributors for the 1954 Alumni Fund campaign are contained in the class column. I was rather relieved when notified to hold the notes down for this month because very little news has been sent in.
A letter was received from Mr. "Baseball" himself, namely Chuck Feeney, in which he mentions the fact that the first recipient of the Bill Remsen Memorial Scholarship is now in college in the Class of '58. His name is Joseph A. Carter 3rd. from South Orange, N. J. Chuck advises, and I quote, "He is an outstanding boy in the Bill Remsen mold." Thanks to you, Chuck, for this news, and I know that the other members of the class will be pleased to receive this information.
While we are mentioning Chuck Feeney it might be interesting for you to know that there was a terrific article in a recent issue of the New York Herald Tribune entitled "The Picture That Looks Toward the Wall." It is an article of considerable length which goes on to tell of Chuck's recruiting for the Giants a promising Dartmouth pitcher. For those of you who have not had the opportunity of reading the column I will try to present it in its entirety next month. It is very amusing and sounds like Chuck to the last word.
Information has been received that JohnGood and his wife announce the birth of a second child, Ann Sheldon, who was born on October 10. Their other child, Bruce Douglas, is now 13 months old.
From Bedford, Mass., comes word that Raffles Raffman has been named instructor of music and director of the Campus Musical Organization at Clark University, Worcester, Mass. Raffles completed graduate study at Indiana University and served in the Navy from '42 to '45 as a carrier squadron flyer and was recalled to service in '51 as an instructor at Pensacola, Fla. He was discharged this year with the rank of lieutenant commander.
That is about all the space that we will take up this month and since Christmas will be here before the next issue is received, I send my sincere wishes to you and your families for a Very Merry Christmas and a Most Prosperous New Year.
