On December 30, 1953, the New YorkTimes carried the good news that Russ Sigler had been elected an assistant trust officer by the board of directors of Bankers Trust Company. Russ has been in the personal trust department of Bankers Trust Company for many years, after having shifted from Central Hanover Bank. ... Sandy McCulloch reports from Arlington, Mass., that he is on the "same old merry-go-round, - looking for pennies behind fuses." The latter expression has reference to Sandy's electrical business. But with activity in a Men's League at his church and as Scout Master of a Scout Troop, as well as being a building superintendent for a Scout Troop cabin, Sandy more than keeps himself busy. ... Ellie Gilbert now appears with a new address as Program Director of Station KTRH-FM, located in the Rice Hotel, in Houston, Texas. ... And speaking of addresses, Frank Ryder certainly creates interest with his new address of Digital Computer Lab., 211 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, Mass. ... And Bob Hooker, who for some time was manager of the Moosilaukee Ravine Camp, is now manager of the Glen House, in Gorham, N. H.

Carl Haffenreffer was recently named vice chairman for advance gifts of a $350,000-campaign to build a new emergency shelter to replace the Lakeside. Home for Children in Warwick, R. I., a temporary refuge for neglected and abused children. The drive is being sponsored by the Children's Friend and Service, of which Carl is a member of the Board of Directors. This is just one of many of Carl's activities and it is undoubtedly of interest that he is also a director of the Boy Scouts of America. ... From Wilton, Conn., Snub Poehler writes that his activities as superintendent of schools have kept him more than reasonably busy. Wilton opened a new Junior High School in 1950, planned to open a new elementary school next spring and had a building committee working on plans for an additional elementary school that will be opened in 1956, with plans in the drafting stage for a further building to be constructed in 1959. Anyone connected with school work will realize the crises and problems involved in that kind of a school program. Snub and his family spend the summer in Ogunquit, Maine, and last summer ran into Dick Barnard on the beach. The Bill Bragners spent a recent weekend with the Poehlers in Wilton.

... Bill May of Greenville, S. C., and JohnnyTiedtke of Winter Park, Fla., both attended the highly successful southern regional conference in Atlanta which was sponsored by the College, and Bob Kimball, Headmaster of St. Stephen's School in Austin, Texas, recently attended the equally successful southwestern regional conference in Dallas. These men have given very generously of their time, as well as money, to make Dartmouth even a stronger national college, and credit should be given to them for their successful efFort.

If any of you wondered how Eddie Jeremiah felt the night in early December past when Dartmouth initiated the new artificial ice hockey rink with a victory over Harvard, the answer is supplied in a recent note from Eddie which, after describing the situation in terms of superlatives of every degree, concluded, "It was a very thrilling and exciting game throughout and if I died immediately after the game, they would have buried me with the biggest smile you ever saw." ... George Frederickson not only made Treasurer Charlie Raymond feel good but also paid a highly deserved compliment to Alumni Magazine Editor Charlie Widmayer when, in sending a check for his 1930 dues to Charlie Raymond, he said, "Where can you get a better buy? I'm surprised that we aren't 100% paid up on Class dues." Incidentally, are you sure that you have paid your Class dues for this year of $6?

A note from Win Stone, who as you know is professor of English at George Washington University, said that he saw Win Hatch and his charming wife out in Pullman, Wash., this last summer and that Win Hatch is "quite a Dean out at W.S.C." Your Secretary knew that Win was chairman of the Division of Biological Sciences at Washington State College, but this is news that he is also Dean. How about letting us know the details, Win Hatch?

Capt. Jack Smith with an address of Infirmary, NAS, Norfolk, Va., is highly pleased with his present assignment at Norfolk as staff flight surgeon for Vice Admiral Ballentine, Commander, Naval Air Forces of the Atlantic. Jack's assignment is especially pleasing to him because it not only calls for visiting stations on inspection but also gives him ample time to keep up on his clinical medicine at the large infirmary at headquarters of the Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk.

Relayed through Memorial Fund Chairman Hank Embree is a welcome letter from Major"Chriss" Chrissinger from Ft. Benning, Ga. Chriss reports that he has chosen atomic energy as his career field in the Army. Inasmuch as his tour at the Infantry School is up in June 1954, he has no idea where he will be after that but guesses that it will be overseas which would present problems of his attending our 25th Reunion in Hanover. Chriss' 20-year-old daughter Jean recently recovered from a serious operation in November but is now back to work in the Post Hospital. Chriss' son John is following his dad's footsteps by attending Shattuck School in Faribault, Minn., but John is "wiping his father's eye" by standing No. 2 in the school with an average of 93.75. Chriss sends his best wishes to all Thirtymen. ... And speaking of the younger generation, Ronald Hodell Chilcote, of the Class of 1957, has certainly given Kay and Lee Chilcote every reason to be proud of him. Ronald was awarded his freshman numerals in soccer and the team went through an undefeated season.

In late September Joe Hancort and his family moved from Danvers, Mass., to their newly completed home at 3 Auburn Road, Wellesley. Having completed his second tour of duty with the Army, Joe is associated again with his old firm of Brown Bros., Harriman & Company, in Boston.

Your Secretary would appreciate news bits from one and all, and extends a special invitation to you wives and daughters of Thirtymen to supply him with newsworthy information.
